2013 June HIM Patriot or Rev3-Quassy

 Hi all,

Need to decide in the next couple of days: Rev3 Quassy 6/2, or Patriot Half, 6/15.

Patriot is an easy drive (1hr 10), my family might come for the finish, and was the original plan.

Quassy is a l_o_n_g drive (2.5) and I'd probably be on my own (possible carpool from near Boston - anyone?) BUT it's an EN event.

Both look like great races... (has anyone done both?) As a noob, I've never been to an EN event; what happens at an EN event that make it "special"?

  • I've never done Quassy, but I've heard it is very hilly. Should be fun with all the EN Peeps.

I have done The Patriot the last 2 yrs and it is a really great race. The swim is in a very clean beautiful lake. The bike is 2 loops of a relatively flat bike course. There are a few small hills, but nothing crazy. It's fairly scenic with a couple of sections near the water. The run is one big loop with some rolling hills, but also nothing crazy. The course tends to be pretty fast. The race has the feel of a 'local' race. It's not all corporate like a WTC 70.3 race is.

I'm doing Quassy this yr, because it's only about an hour from my house and am excited to race with all the EN peeps. But I am a bit sad that I'm not going back to the Patriot...
  • Have not done either race, have wanted to do Quassy last 2 yrs. It just happens that it is  an EN targeted event for 2013 so in on that. I also have the Patriot on my list as well! I enjoy doing race courses that are challenging and will travel distances to participate in a quality event. So for me to travel 8 hrs from the great white north to get to Quassy, I don't bat an eye when it comes to that!

To meet and network with members on the team is a plus in going to Quassy! $0.02 !

  • You'll win either way, so I'd stick with what's "easier" especially if the fam is making sacrifices to support you at an IM later, etc!
  •  Thanks all.   Will stick with Patriot. Posting on the main page to see if I should create the group for Patriot 2013
