Trainer Road OS Workouts

Since we do not (yet) have Trainer Road affiliation firmed up with EN OS specific workouts, I thought I'd start a thread where people can offer suggestions for which TR workouts to use.

E.g., the next OS WKO is a set of "30/30s". The closest to that I can find in TR is called Clouds Rest. It has 3 sets of 12x30/30. (obviously, we'd only do one of those sets.) To find others, look under the "VO2" section on the left side of the Workouts page. Most of them use longer intervals, like 2-3 minutes, and have sets which go from 120-140% of FTE. Remember, that you can adjust on the fly the % of FTE with the % button at the bottom of the TR screen.

The length of the intervals, as Gordon noted in his post this morning, is a different topic for discussion. If folks want to get into that, maybe we should bump the thread he referenced from Feb of this year (which got quite technical, and may be a little much for newbs) or start a new one for this go-round. And maybe ask RnP for a quick comment on why this year we are being given 30 and 60 second intervals, instead of offered the option to make them longer, keeping the total work time the same.

  • Ok. So I bought in. I am now a "Trainer Road Guy". I am going to use my fluid trainer with my Quarq and an Ant+ Stick. I just watched the tutorial video on the TR website and I am pretty stoked. The bummer is now realizing the EN workouts aren't there. What to do.... image

    Such a bummer.

For tomorrow's VO2 stuff I will perhaps try "Cloud Rest" for fun....
  • You can also use the Free workout and create your own. You don't always have to follow TR.
  • Definitely create your own! I picked a VO2 workout that was 'close' as a base and just modified it to fit today's set. I can't remember the name, but it was something close to Clouds Rest. Then just click on each segment to adjust the time and intensity to fit the pattern we are supposed to do today. My username is Spabbo if you want to search my workout from this morning to see what today's looks like.

I've already built Saturday's ride as well, although I may be riding outside on Saturday as it's supposed to be in the low 80's! image
  • Did the Clouds Rest this morning! THANKS Al for highlighting this one!
  • Thanks Al and Greg. Thanks for the heads up on workout names to look for, I think that is half the battle with the TR library, knowing what to look for.
