30/30 workouts for power athletes

If I am a power athlete and have my Zone 5/very hard set at 336 watts and my 5 min VO2 is 357, do I try to push above that 336 every time?  it seems to me that 336 would not be too hard for 30 seconds with rest inbetween if I did more for 5 minutes straight before

First of all, congrats! You found the easter egg we put in these plans to see if you guys were paying attention, ie, we have you testing your Vo2 power but then the power calculator is pulling in Zone 5, which is usually less. See, we totally planned that, we totally didn't forget to make a change to the doohicky after we changed the thingmajig.

Second...anyone want to comment on 30/30's being too easy

  •  1st/2nd set of 30/30 =

    3rd set of 30/30 =

    4th set of 3030 =

    5th/6th set of 30/30 =

  • Ditto Robert's post.
  • sets 4-6 is where the burn sets in for me. Nothing easy about and mentally tough.
  • I didn't find a problem with the workout...I felt that the remainder of the time in 80-85% was the hardest (12 mins for me) now that I look at the numbers the last 12 mins was too hard, oh well. I used trainerroad and created the workout using their workout creator. I have been using TR since early May following their first 2 build programs for my weekday workouts and find that their workouts have the same type of feeling as what coaches want us to do so I am thinking that's why it wasn't that hard for me. Am I way off? thanks

I will post a link to my TR workout but I'm not sure how to.
  • I also have trouble with the remainder of the time at Heart Rate Zone 3. I just couldn't get my heart rate to get down that low. My watch complained to me the whole time that my HR was too high image I've had this issue with Heart Rate training before - zone 1, 2 and 3 are really hard for me to get down to and maintain. I seem to lack a 'happy medium' speed.
  • Wowzers! I just did my first trainer ride in about 18 months. It was the Trainer Road 30/30 work out. What an interesting experience... So cool to watch the screen and what a sweatfest!
