310XT display fields for power?

Just got my used powertap wheel this week.  Finally got my trainer tire on and I'm ready for my first power ride tomorrow - I'm a Jan OS start, so doing my own thing for another week until I start the Bike Focus plan and I'm planning on a sufferfest video.  I'll be using my 310XT as my computer - what data fields should I display on the screen?  Excited to start training with power, but gosh there's a lot to learn!  Thanks in advance.

  • @Dave - 3s and 30s Power are pretty much all you need for the OS. I have mine set up with:

    3s 30s

    Lap Time Total Time

More importantly, though --- have you purchased, watched, and digested the Power Webinar????
  • I like 3s power, lap power, lap time, and a fourth field that could be total time, heart rate or cadence. For the OS, I would probably choose cadence.
  • Thanks guys.  Power webinar has been downloaded - guess I've got my weekend planned out.    Still going to ride tomorrow even though I won't know exactly what the numbers mean.  Anybody use the "scroll" feature on the 310 in the case you want to look at more info?  I like to watch my cadence and when I'm back outside I like to watch distance and time.  Better go get reading now.

Yes.  I have mine set to Medium and I vary the fields at the bottom.  That way, the upper line is constant so I can always see my 3s power.

  • I don't use the scroll, but I use the same general technique as Joe so I can flip around by hand. Using the scroll is clever.
  •  Thanks guys.  Slowly working my wat through the power webinar.

  • For those of you using 310xt for power, I have had an issue with my310xt losing its reliability on the road or during a race...SPECIFICALLY when I have a long subtle downhill that I spin through with a cadence of 90-105 and push relatively low power for a couple minutes or more. Then my power and cadence data goes haywire for a long time after that. Totally unreliable after a long, fast descent for many miles thereafter. It seems like it doesn't resink until I push some pretty big power consistently for it to re-establish itself. It's not batteries, because once it resins it is ok until the next long, spinning descent.

I posted this issue under a different topic a while back, but saw this one and thought I might find someone that has experienced this. It has happened with a previous 310xt as well as 3 different hubs.
