Calibrating your PT with Trainer Road
Hi all,
Iin the past, i've always done a PT calibration/reset before trainer rides. (via my Garmin 705). Now that I'm using TR, I haven't really been calibrating. What are you guys doing? Should I be using the 705 to calibrate before starting TR? Interested to see what process you are following... Thanks!

I may be wrong, as I am relatively new at this as well, but I don't think calibrating the 705 actually changes anything in the powertap itself (ie I don't think there is two way communication between the units). I believe it adjusts the 705 to read 0 when the powertap is reporting 0. It does give you a number that tells you the 'health' of the powertap though. That being said I have never calibrated trainer road with my powertap, but every once in a while I coast and check to see if it reports 0 watts.
-edit- I just found something online that said that calibrating with the 705 ( i use a 910xt outdoors) DOES change settings in the powertap hub. I also read something that said you don't need to calibrate it. Now I'm confused LOL. Unfortunately the powertap manual refers only to their own head unit. Hopefully one of the gurus will weigh in...
...and you don't even need it to download inot wko....you can download the workout file directly from TrainerRoad to you computer then into WKO or TrainingPeaks or whatever...........
Thanks eveyone. I don't use the 705 at all with Trainerroad. I was just wondering how we'd know if the hub was starting to "drift" on the readings when we solely use TR. Cycleops seems to make a big deal about recalibrating before each ride so that's what caused my concern. Anywhooo, I found a comment form Nate from TR on another board and he said that as long as TR is reading Zero when you stop pedalling, then everything is working fine. I think that answer's my question Thanks again for the responses
