Week of Nov 11. IMAZ wk #19. Home Stretch!

Two Weeks to go Guys! Glad to be in the home stretch, and getting excited about race day...

Hope everyone is staying healthy and injury free, or at least healing.....

As for me:

ARGHHHH! Still down and out. Day 5 with low grade fever coming and going, fine in the morning and then crash in the afternoon/evening. Fever and headache but no other symptoms. Its weird I've never had a virus last this long, and given there are no other symptoms, I cant see it being bacterial. I'm trying to stay hydrated and keep weight up, but i'm down 3lbs so far, dont have much appetite. I am going to be PISSED, if this goes on much longer and saps me for the race. I know I've pretty much blown the taper at this point. I'll be past peak by race day. Grrrr.

  • Rest up and recover. You have the work done!
  • Danny Rian hope it passes soon.
  • Rian-hope you are feeling better. I'm loading up on vit C and all my antioxidants!
The weather has been gorgeous here in the desert-highs low 90s. Tempe town lake was 70 degrees yesterday! But, a cold storm rolling in tomorrow night. I will be swimming in the lake Saturday-3000 yd splash and dash. I will let you all know how it is
  • Rian.   Yes rest well.      Maybe a short/intense bike and/or run workout sun or mon or tuesday to get the metabolism reved back up.

  • @Rian-big bummer!!! This sounds like a virus that's been going around here in GA as well. It shouldn't last more than 2 more days at the most. You'll be fine. Bank up the rest and hit it when u feel better on the weekend. No worries!

Did my very first swim with a long sleeved wet suit today. I rented it, that's why only now doing it. Felt better than I anticipated. I thought it would bind me more under the arms but no problems. I did feel like I had to work a little harder to pull. Is that just my imagination (or lack of skill) or is this normal?

Bike is on the truck and headed to Tempe! Lola is riding next to a serious lady racer's bike with a disk wheel and pink Hello Kitty Tri bar tape! Not sure if my bike is going to get beat up or asked to play paper dolls ;-)

@Amy: its normal to feel a little more work in the shoulder with a long sleeve. Make sure you do a good job really working your self into that sucker. It helps if you can get someone to grab the back zippers and work them to overlap each other while you stretch your arms forward and across themselves. This will get the suit as 'loose' as possible on your shoulders.

I'd be more worried about what a bike name 'Lola" is going to do to the other bikes in the truck, rather than Ms Hello Kitty.

@All: Thanks. Fog is lifting. Yesterday was the first day in a week with no fever. Got a Zpack from the Dr. which was his best stab in the dark as to what to do. It seems to be working. I'm still weak, which is frustrating. I break into a sweat just walking around the house, but I've got appetite back, so I'm optimistic things will be much better in a couple days.

  • Question for everyone, since my bike is on the truck do y'all think that it is okay for me to do Saturday's long bike on a spin bike at the gym?
  • I'm doing a spin on Sat am for 40 mins for a little speed, then hoping on my trainer with my road bike for an easy spin for the remainder. Honestly, the hay is in the barn. You can totally spin it out at the gym. It's all good!
  • Rian- glad it's getting better. 10 days to go, you will be fine.

Glad to hear that the various injuries/ over training are resolving.

Trying not to jinx things here. No shoulder pain when swimming. No hip pain for a week. Alternating slow treadmill runs with aqua jog. Very excited about the race. Terrified of the swim start.

I am going sleeveless, but will have a heated dive shirt underneath. At this point, I doubt I will need to turn it on except when standing around waiting. I was swimming in water of high 60s without heated shirt and I was fine. Bringing neoprene cap, hoping it won't be needed.
  • @ Rian: Yay!

    @ Michele: Yay!

Hope everyone is ready to get it on!!!
  • Actually giddy that I am done with the weekend's wko by 11am on Saturday! What shall I do with all my time!!!!
  • Last splash & dash of the season -Swam 3000 today at TTL-water temp this AM was 66. I was perfectly comfortable in wet suit-long sleeve, not cold at all. I did wear my blue seventy neoprene cap and ear plugs under my swim cap-but I am used to wearing a hood when scuba diving so it didn't bother me at all (and was the first time I have ever swam with it.) I also put a little vasoline on the back of my hands and feet-it wasn't a problem when i got out of the water-it seemed to be gone. I did the 5k after and planned to practice my slow pace at start of IM run-it was hard to hold back, not being fatigued from riding 112miles!

Sadly, a cold front moved in this evening and the low's are supposed to drop all week. General consensus from past experience is that the water temp will be 61 next weekend which will feel a lot colder than today.
  • OK Betsy- that was not the news I wanted confirmed. But when I saw the weather report with just a glimpse of AZ temps, I was pretty sure that was where we were headed. Guess it's good that you are confirming it now.

I am as ready as I can be for this event. Planning to pack this evening as I have a meeting every night after work until I leave (so much fun to be salaried- NOT!)

Moving things around as always. Still aqua jogging every other day, even if it's not a run day.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the team dinner. Safe travels!
