Our kids are at the end of their seasons too. Brag a little!
I know I'm not the only one in da haus whose kids are involved in SBR activities. I thought it might be fun to have a little brag sheet thread for us doting parents who live vicariously through our kids to brag on them a little. It's got to be the end of Cross Country season almost everywhere.... In Iowa, high school girls also swim in the Fall... Must be a few bikers out there...
I'll start
- Chris, a senior in high school, had his best CC season, and finished the year with a 16:30 5K on a legit (read hard, but not ridiculous) course that he's run several times before...for a PR on any CC course. He finished the year 3rd on his squad, which competed in State Finals, and he (will shortly be) named Academic All State. Woo hoo! He starts high school swimming in a week and has an outside shot of making State Finals in the distance free.
- Timothy, a 7th grader, ran for the first time. He improved more than 1.5 minutes from his first race on the middle school CC circuit, finishing with a best time of under 13 minutes for their 2 mile runs. In his last race, he placed 5 on his squad among 7th and 8th graders out of about 35 boys. He's also doing club swimming and has a goal of breaking 30 s in 50 free this season (SCY) and qualifying for the state meet, probably in the 200 free. His breaststroke is also coming along.
- Olivia, who is twins with Timothy, ran officially for the first time this year, although she ran informally last year. [Their school is 6-8, but 6th graders don't get to compete.] In her last couple races, she finished first among girls on her squad, with a bet time of 12:30 for a 2 mile course. She ran in a semi-formal state championship and came in 3rd in the 7th grade girls race. She is also swimming and has goals of picking up some AA times in the distance free events and A times in fly and IM.

My kids are still young, so have not chosen their sports yet, but I can still give all an idea of activities and accolades so far. I'm of the theory of get them involved early and often for health, friendship-building and other skill development. One day we will break it down to one sport/season, but for now I think it's more fun to be on the sidelines all day then at home worrying about how I'm going to get the laundry/dishes, etc. done. I'd always vote for getting out of the house. Many friends think I'm crazy to sign up for so much, but the kids love it, don't get sick, and have lots o' friends! Anyway:
-Riggs (6yo). Soccer & flag football in the fall. His team won the championship. It was 18-6 and Riggs scored 2 touchdowns. He stopped the other team two times at the 1 yard line and then the team kept them out. It was pretty darn exciting. Swim team starts tonight and he also plays ice hockey and lacrosse. At least one ski trip is on the calendar too. Spring is lax & baseball, tennis in the summer. This kid's definitely an athlete, which makes us super happy. Two-time Mite Champion last season. I told him that we both only won 2 championships in our entire careers. The fact that he won his first two is sort of insane. He giggled. Will say that his hockey team this year is painful though. They lose everything! "Good job, Riggs! Mommie loves to see you play!" Puke. I hate going to those games. haha.
-Tali (5yo). Tali's been swinging on the monkey bars since she was 2.5. I don't know much about gymnastics, but a mother literally pulled me aside on the playground a year ago and exclaimed that I had to get her involved in gymnastics. Ok, sure. So, I signed her up and she quickly rose 4 levels. She stands up, bends over backwards, then flips over back onto her feet. She's tried a back handspring on our bed, she's always doing 5000 cartwheels at a time, she does handstands against a wall and situps, pushups. I mean, I honestly can't quite get over that I am going to be a gymnastics mom. I do not fit in, but it's fun enough, and again--she loves it! Starting swim team tonight too, and will do hockey in the winter also and soccer in the spring. She's a daredevil on skis. Definitely my middle, wild child!
-Phoebe (2yo). No town sports yet, but soccer will be her game. For now she likes playing on the playgrounds next to the fields, which is the BEST idea in the world. Little siblings play on the playground and parents can keep an eye on all kids at once, while actually enjoying a cup of coffee instead of chasing all the little siblings around or yelling, "No! Don't go out on the field! No..."
