pain in top of foot

 Hi Everyone!

Wondering if anyone has heard of this...I have a pain in the top of my foot almost as if my shoes are too tight or are bending and putting pressure at the spot right before the toe starts.

I feel it a bit when I run and especially after I run. I have loosened my shoes and it really didn't help. When I warm up on an elliptical or something it seems to bother me less.

Hard intervals seem to aggravate.

Any ideas?

Thanks peeps

JC

  • Hey Jeremiah. image

Sorry for the delay. Have been out of town for a seminar. Typically pain in the top of the foot is as result of pulling your toes up versus pushing off fully and then letting them relax and reload before the next foot strike/pedal revolution.

Work your calf out as much as you can. Look in the forum a few threads back for lots of talk and even a video on ways to attack it. There is also a post in the wiki that links back to an older 3.0 thread with pictures for specific stretches. In addition to those, you'll need to work on the bottom of your foot/arch. Ideally, freeze a water bottle or use a trigger point ball and stand on it. roll from your heel to your toes looking for sore and tight spots. when you do find a tight spot, sit on it and pull your toes up to help stretch it out. Lastly, you'll want to stretch out the front along your shin. while sitting with no shoe on, curl your toes under your foot and push your ankle forward. You should feel a big stretch in the top of your foot and maybe even up your leg.

Ice is nice as things are healing. shoot for 10-15 minutes after your runs and hard bikes until it's healed up.

  • Leigh!!! good to hear from you and I totally appreciate everything. Will get on it! You going to Placid this year?
  • Yo. image no worries at all. if stuff still seems tight or it's still bugging you, lemme know.
