Opinion on "sport legs"?

Does anybody in the EN nation have any opinions on "sport legs" Product.  It claims it reduces lactate build up during exercise.  Has anybody had any success.  It appears it has a blend of calcium (136 mg) magnesium (68 mg) and lactate (1115 mg) and vitamin D (68 iu).  I believe this is supposed to saturate your body with lactate in some way.  Thus making your body more efficient in removing lactate, and raising your threshold.  Any thoughts, or experiences?

  • I took it for a few months and really did not notice any difference.
  • Generally I'm kind of skeptical of products like these. I feel that it's very difficult to conclusively prove an effect that's beyond a placebo, and distinguishable from gains achievable through training.
  • Lactate is used metabolically like any old sugar. Hard to imagine that eating it will do anything but be a slight variation on a spoonful of sugar (or a slice of Wonder Bread for that matter).

The other ingredients might make a difference if you were deficient in those, but not if you have a reasonable diet.

It has been shown possible to consume enough buffer to raise your pH a bit and increase performance in short races. Typically, it's either carbonate or bicarbonate, which are very closely related. (For races where it matters, think 100 m swimming or 400 m running, etc.) The trouble is that you have to consume so much that your GI gets very angry at you, and a huge fraction of people that do it experience projectile vomiting...or if they last longer projectile expulsion out the other end....
  • Tried them. Never really noticed any difference.
  •  I've used it with great success.  Maybe it's the placebo effect but that still is worth it to me.  The lactate is non-dairy so if you are lactose intollerant to dairy, it is a good substitute to the chocolate milk recovery drink.
