Top of foot sore after IMAZ

I just finished IMAZ last Sunday and the only thing that still is killing me is the top of my left foot.

I didnt notice this hurting during the event but holy crappers its been sore for a week now.

I use speed laces so I am wondering if I might of had the laces too tight or something and brused the top of my foot.

I can move all my toes normal with no pain but it just hurts when I put shoes on.

One would think I would of got this on my longer runs prior to the IM event but nothing.

Anyone ever had this before

Thanks Randy

  • Hey Randy - I get the same thing when my laces are too tight, but it doesn't usually last for a whole week. Sounds like it could be a bruise since it doesn't hurt when you move your toes. Bruising from tight laces is definitely a possibility, but if it doesn't resolve soon, get it looked at. Check out the current issue of Runner's World - there's a little "Treat Your Feet" booklet between pages 96-97. Page 4-5 of the booklet have a "Where Does it Hurt?" article, and #6 on their list, top of the foot, is a stress fracture. Stress fractures usually produce localized pain and don't radiate - it will be point tender over the site of the fracture - but you'd probably be feeling it whenever you take a step with that foot.... so I'm hoping it's just a deep bruise!
  • Yikes that would suck. I will give it this week then should have it looked at. It's just odd I didn't feel it during my event. Hmmm
  •  Randy - I would definitely get it checked out. About 4 weeks ago I started getting a vague pain in my ankle during my runs.  Thought it was just some irritation from the tongue of my shoe so put a cushioned band-aid on it.  Also did IMAZ last week. My ankle was swollen the next day with some pain, but then again everything hurt.  When the swelling didn't subside over the next two days, I saw my orthopedic surgeon.  Diagnosis, a stress fracture of my distal tibia, estimated to have occurred 3-4 weeks prior.  I am now in a boot for at least 6 weeks with no weight bearing for at least the next 2 weeks.  Please don't take your symptoms lightly.

  • I had top of foot pain and it was extensior tendinitis....took me a long time to figure that out. Fixed it with a boot at night, a scraping technique called graston by a chiropractor to relieve tension in my tendons, and lots of calf stretching.
  • I don't know how bad your pain is, but I have pain at the top inner part of my left foot after IMFL. It's focal pain in an area about the size of a half dollar and is probably from my speed laces. When I started running again, I wore the shoes with the speed laces and it hurt like a bitch. It took me a few runs to finally switch to different laces, and then it didn't hurt. My foot didn't hurt at any other time, or with any shoes that didn't press on that spot.
Reading some of the other comments, I'm hoping you don't have a stress fracture. Yikes. Get it checked out before you run on it.
