Carl Awesome to have finally met you! You have as much energy and enthusiasm in person as you do online I love it! Course I love the way you blame Jim and I for the run pace on weds when it was clearly all Jim's fault :-) . I really hope you didnt over do it on that run but your results dont indicate that you did. Our practice ride was fun and I was glad to have you and Jim to draft off and save myself, and even then I think it was too much even riding at .60. Great report and race finishing up your epic year. Considering the discussion we had about your run vs vdot , factoring in a harder than expected swim and bike, the heat , humidity, then your blisters and porto potty stops I would say you nailed the run (and the entire race) as best as could be expected! Congrats!
Tim - Very nice to meet you also. Running and riding with our team was a blast. We have some serious fit athletes. I'm now recovering and looking forward to next season. Not a lot on the plate yet. Looking forward to racing several local races and others within driving distance.
Great report and great performance Carl. I had the same low point at the end of the first run loop. I did find my wife there and told her to expect a long day from me. I noted that your bike computer was showing some pretty high temps on the bike portion. I read on Slowtwitch that it hit over 90 degrees on the East side of the island. So we were riding in a blast furnace! Where did you find the number of starters? My figure of 1788 finishers came from the official IMCOZ facebook page. But wouldn't it be great if WTC published clear stats on the actual number registered, the number of starters, and the DNFs for each leg leaving the official number of finishers at the end. They have the data and I just don't understand the big secret. Anyway, it was a damn tough day out there and we did it. I'm not doing anything this week, but I start running and biking on Monday. Woo-hoo, I've already got the IM Sweden logo on my desktop! See you in the out season, and congrats again on the 3 Feat!
Nicely done, Honey Badger! I've gotta say that 2 in a year wiped me out...don't know how you did three without going totally NUTSO. I'm looking forward to meeting at IMMoo this year.
Carl ... Pretty unblieveable, nailing that run in your third IM in 6 months. Given the several minutes you lost to stops while running, your time was right at the edge of your envelope, IMO, for the weather of the day. If your raced on a 60F day, flatish course, yeah you could do 3:45, but 4:13 when its 82 - that's pushing the max, buddy. Be proud.
Carl, a great race on a challenging course and rough conditions. Way to stay in the mental game when the IM race day surprises showed up!!! An excellent year!!! Recover well!
I read the RR about 5 minutes after you posted to FB, but am just now getting around to commenting on it.
I have no idea how you do everything you do! Getting up in the early morning...well, middle of the night for most people...to get the training in, and then put it into practice for not just 1 or 2 Ironman, but 3.
You seemed to do a lot of training right up to the race. Did you have the same race week workouts with the other IM's?
I'm interested to see how you do next year with putting all your training and energy in to one IM!

Thanks again for the kind words. I actually took about 7 days off after Wisc and slowly creeped into it then really stepped on the gas putting in a couple 300+ mile bike weeks and several 60+ running weeks with a lot of intensity into both. I wanted to go sub 11 here and felt I was more then prepared for it.
I kept the same regimine's for all races except for Cozumel. My training weeks were about 19-24 hours and I really felt comfortable and that my body had adjusted to it. During the week however I usually would do nothing from Thursday till raceday. I needed to acclimate to the weather in Cozumel and it felt great to get out with the other teammates.
As of right now I am signed up only for IM Wisc. Was planning on doing Kansas 70.3 but my daughters dance recital is that weekend. She works hard all year for this and dad can't miss that for the world not would I. Therefore, think I might do Racine. I don't think it is necessary though to even do a half during the year. I might just stick close to home and do several around the state.
Yes it will be nice to really concentrate on one. I am really jumpy though about Texas.
2014 I am all over CDA, Wisc, and IMMT. Maybe Texas in place of one of them. I also want to do Arizona.

Carl awesome year and while the race was tough you did a good job of staying in the moment.
congrats!
Way to hang with the squirts and everything. I aspire to have your mental toughness at future races.
The badger is taking his nap at this time and putting a little thick brown fat back on. "I'll be back" Jan 7th in rare form!!
