Any MS150 (Houston-to-Austin) riders???

I get back to home to Houston once a year to ride from Houston to Austin to help raise money to fight MS.  I ride with my college roomates and was wondering it any other EN peep were riding.  13000 people ride 150 miles in two days!!  Can't wait, really fun training ride.

  • I did MS150 from Dallas to FT Worth in 2008, part of my ramp-up to IMCDA. Great event.
From what I've heard of the Houston to Austin, starts out flat, ends up hilly - which shouldn't be a surprise given it's heading into "hill country" that is ATX.

Fundraising, even if it was the $300 minimum (I just made the 'donation' myself) is always difficult for me.
  •  Come ride with us in Dallas again. TEAM VIPMotorcars.net.  May 1-2.

  • @scott - Its a great ride, not too many places where 13000 people get in one place to ride. The course is great, really flat for the first 80 miles and then it start to get a little bumpy. "Hills" as I learned last year are all relative. I live in western Wyoming where "hills" are really mountains. So, back down in TX a "hill" sometimes is not much more than an overpass on the freeway. Although, the closer the ride gets to ATX, certainly the climbs get a bit longer and steeper. The minimum fund raising for this ride is $400. It seemed a lot easier last year to get to that mark than this year. I always try and finish in ATX earlier in the day so that we can stop by Mellow Johnny and Chuys before we head back to Houston. It seems to be a challenge to get my buddies to ride faster the closer we get to Austin. It's difficult living where is snows, because I probably will not get a ride outside before I leave for Houston. I almost wierd going from probably snow still on the ground to shorts and sunburns. All-in-all a great weekend, can't wait
  • @Paul, that same weekend of 5/1-5/2 is: Escape from Alcatraz (haven't decided yet), Warrior Dash, and MS150, and of course ramping up for ToC Camp.

All of this depends on my EFA decision.

@Chuck, when I started cycling out here in TX, I told my friends that "there were no hills in TX". Well, I was really in for a shock when I saw what I saw and couldn't keep up. Needless to say, they still needle me about that comment, and I've become much better at hills. Being an EN Big Dood (6'1" and 200lbs), I actually like hills and look forward to them.
  •  I have a bunch of friends doing the warrior dash.  I captain a team for the MS ride so can't skip.  But would have bailed anyway since CDA is so near.  Las thing I need to do is get hurt doing something crazy!!  It would be my luck.

  • MS150 from Dallas to FTW fits in perfectly with the EN IMCDA plans of riding both Sat and Sun. I did it in 2008 and it was a great route for IMCDA training.

AT&T (my employer) also has a sponsored team that I did it with in the past.
