  • If you don't have a compact crankset, i'd consider a 12/27 or 28 unless your ftp is really high
  • I would not invest in a compact crank for this race as it's flat. If you want to switch up get you a 12/25 you will be fine with that. Down the road you might want to get a compact and if you do you will have the proper cassette for it.
  • Thanks guys. Sounds like a compact crank would be great for my other 2013 races? Timberman and Beach2Battleship. FTP is on the low side of 189.

What is the purpose of the compact crank, sorry I'm new to all of this bike stuff.

  • B2B is flat as a board. Timberman has "some" elevation gain to it but not enough that I would buy a new crankset. Just my $.02.

A compact crank gives you more bullets for your gun. It is good for races that are hilly IMLP for example. It allows you to keep your legs spinning without having to mash your cadence which in turn destroys your legs for running.
  • Bob/David. Thank you for the info. I think i will keep things the same for 2013..
