Ipad - what programs work?

Just got a new Ipad.  Have always been a windows person.  It looks like WKO does not work, not sure about Computrainer?  I think Polar will and I think GArmin will.  Anyone have work arounds or other suggestions?  I really know nothing about this new fangled toy!  Thanks.

  • Pretty much only web based apps will work unless you are connecting remotely to your PC desktop and running the apps on the pc via remote control.

There are of course a slew of app store based fitness apps that exist and will work as well.

A bunch of reading here and a lot of them are iphone specific but you might get some ideas.

I still use my laptop or a desktop for my training and to me the ipad is still a fancy toy so I mostly watch a movie on it while I have the PC running trainer road.

  • A TrainerRoad iPad app is coming. Can't really go into any more details than that, other than I may be collaborating with TrainerRoad to help create it.

So naturally, you can assume it will be awesome.
  • I have an iPad and love it. I still have a PC laptop for some programs that just aren't Mac or iPad friendly. On that list is WKO, CompuTrainer, TrainerRoad (because I use CT), Quicken, Training Peaks and the related Device Agent to upload workouts.

The iPad is great for reading books/blogs/magazines etc, surfing the web, watching TV & movies, email, calendar, FaceTime/Skype and a bunch of other stuff.
  •  There is a TrainingPeaks app for the iPad. It appears to be fairly useless. I don't use it, so can't comment further.

I will note that the Windows netbook I got after 25 years of Mac exclusivity just for ComputTrainer and WKO+ cost less than 1/2 of my iPad

  • I like training peaks on my iPad for quick entry of morning weight and workouts. Other than that a computer is much more detailed. And agreeing with Al...I bought a new lappy to use with the Computrainer and I do all my TP and WKO stuff on it. Yep, quite a bit less than the iPad, but except for that, I'm on my iPad way more.
