After ~10 days of lackluster workouts due to work travel (I did manage a bike FTP test last weekend as well as a MP/HMP run), I was finally able to hit a workout again. Even though the power bump from the test was relatively small (4W), it did bump me from the 240's to the 250's - and with that came the mental goal of trying to keep power > 250W the entire time. See, at 249 I was able to let myself slip to the low 240's if necessary, cuz I was still in the same 'divided by 10' range. But going to 250 changed all that. End result? First 15' was tough, especially the last few minutes. Second 15' was definitely a character builder. The 80-85% portion actually got easier as things went along and my legs recovered from the FTP portions.
I felt tired today so I bagged the workout at 54 minutes. I felt decent during the warmup, but when I started the first main set I had trouble holding my goal watts. lap 1 15 min. @.97 NP 232w 5 min@ .97 NP 231w 5 min. warm down. hopefully my legs will have more zip in them tommorrow.
I posted this outside of this forum eariler, so for posterity, raised FTP from 265 to 273! Very excited by this... and mental management is working so far when applying the new power numbers to the subsequent workouts! Did IMLP 2012 with FTP at 255, so things are looking good for this coming year! training with power is HARD but it is FUN to see the work pay off.

feared for a few minutes that i wasn't going to be able to hold the 2nd interval, but made it
looking forward to tomorrow's run and some rest and recovery time -- body is telling me i need it!
now, if Megatron can break Jerry Rice's record, it'll put a nice capper on the day
