Gift from year 2000 Santa

I wanted one of these when they were all the rage in the 90's and 2000's, so I decided to pick this up as a winter project.   I found a carbon guy who can remedy the beam delamination issue the Rocket had, and will be doing lots of smaller tweaks to make this slippery ... internal cable routing, hidden rear brake, a carbon shiv-esque nosecone / nutrition holder, and a few other carbon 'storage solutions' to clean things up as much as possible.  I love having a project!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to make sure my computer is Y2K-compliant and listen to some Savage Garden I got from Napster.

  • Wild! That's cool, man. I am eager to see how this goes.
  •  Fun.    Show us step by step build pics.

  • Hmmm. These have value now? I have one moldering away in my basement...
  • I think it's super cool and can't wait to see how it turns out!
  • @Bill - they still trade for a few bucks on eBay as complete bikes....
  • @ Bill: I would have thought that more of these would still appear on the Brevet scene; I undersstand they were popular with RAAM riders, and the same principles of comfort and aero would surely apply to multi-day events. Out of curiousity, what model do you have in the basement?

@ others: I just put on a Blackwell Time Bandit (70 mm deep!) fork. I'm having fun with this. The carbon work will be a few $$ that is going to need to wait until I've made other 'core triathlon' purchases, though. Unfortunately, I'm not very patient when I start something like this.
  • An older guy in Tri club still rides his fairly often when not on his TT bike. He rides it with 650 Tubulars.
