IF we switch to iPhone...what 'size' should we get?

Thinking about switching to the i-Verse.

So, if we take the plunge, the next question is which size of the iPhone do we get?  8GB?  I don't see downloading movies, and I use dropbox so I can get pictures off my current phone (HTC EVO) as soon as they are taken.

Thanks for any and all advice!

  • Totally depends on how much media you're going to store on it, as you note...songs/photos/video take up a lot more room than apps. If you are going to stream music, rather than store gobs of it, then 8 GB will be enough for lots of Apps. I like having the photostream feature on and tend to subscribe to a ton of podcasts, so I am happier with a "bigger" one than that, but it's all a matter of need/taste. I also have a fair sized music library on it. But all this means that I get away with the minimal data plan, since I stream so little.
  • What William said. I am on iPhone5 and have had a love affair with units 1-4. Wow.

I use my phone for EVERYTHING. It's the remote control for my life! I use it to play music when I train outside, so the library is vast. It holds thousand of my digital pictures. It has movies of my kids and enough apps to choke Steve Jobs. I also take pictures all day long - at work, at home and while i train. My kids are 5 and 2. Like me they get bored fast, my phone has their Apps and media as well.

So, I always go big and fill it to the brim. When space gets tight I edit my play lists. If you are like me, go for it. Better to have space you don't need than not have space when need it.

Flip side, if you get want to make calls, surf the net, have some pics and a little music, 8g will be roomy.

  • Thanks guys. Still haven't made the decision, but this helps.
  •  My advice is get the biggest capacity you can afford.  I had a 64GB iphone 3S and then upgraded to a 16GB 4S and I really miss the extra space.  Say some day you are travelling and want to take a couple of movies, the 8GB will be gone pretty quickly (especially since you will have only about 6.5GB to use).  When thinking about capacity don't think about what you will use it for everyday, try to think about what you will use it for 'someday'.
