Absolute Newbe question! - How do I calculate HR zones?

Hi  Guys,

I'm having a shocker here and I can't remember how to calculate Heart Rate Zones! Can someone please point me in the right direction?

ALSO - another stupid question - on my plan it has 2 bike workouts for tuesday - one at FTP & one using HR. I assume that I only do one of these?

Thanks in advance for your help - I know these are stupid questions!

Cheers

  • Hi Sara,

No stupid questions in the Haus! To get your HR you need to do you 5k run test. Your MAX HR for this test is your lactate threshold HR. Use this number with any on-line HR calculator and you are good to go. This test and the data tool will also get you your Vdot. Enter this in your profile and the pace will automatically populate your workouts. You can also get the resting rate by wearing your monitor and just relaxing for 15 minutes and then taking that number.

Regarding the bike test, unless you own a power meter, you are doing the HR test. If you have a power meter, the FTP test is the preferred.
  • Brilliant thanks Dino,
I think my 5k time trial is Thursday, so I'll figure it out then!
    I appreciate your help.
  • The data tool under the TRAINING link allows you to put in your info.

Run test: If you read the run test, you will see that it asks for your Avg HR for the test, not your Max HR
Bike test: same - avg hr for the 40min test. When you go into the data tool, just put 0 in the VO2 and FTP spots and then enter your Avg HR and then it will give you your Zones. Good luck
  • Opps. Brenda was right! I do something different. It's double top secret... image
