Calculating my FTP and VO2

 Hello All,

I am poor and cannot afford a power meter.  So i am training with a heart rate monitor.  So i did today's workout and my results are as follows:

Average heart rate: 169

Average speed: 18.2 mph

Distance during test: 12.1 miles

So i put my hr in for LTHR.  But what do i put into FTP and VO2?  I am confused... Please help

  • Once you put in your LTHR, it should calculate zones 1-5 for you. Zone 3 is equivalent to 80-85% of FTP, Zone 4 is FTP and Zone 5 is VO2 from what I remember.
  • Yes, just put in your LTHR and it will calculate your HR zones.  no need to put in FTP or VO2.

  • When I enter my LTHR it tells me I must put in a FTP and VO2. I'm still not clear on how to get my zones. Appreciate any help!

    Thanks,
    Josie
  • The only problem is when you go to the data tool page under Bike Zones Calcultor and put your LTHR and enter it states, "You must enter FTP and You must enter Vo2 Power". No other information is given. I do know several people have emailed Coach P about this.

  • Jay and Josie, This is the problem that i am running into.
  • Enter 0 into the FTP or anything that pertains to power.
You are training strictly by HR and therefore it will then generate heart rate zones in 1,2,3, and 4.
