FTP and VO2 with Heart Rate Data

I know I'm missing something, so I'll apologize once the obvious answer is thrown at me...

I did the bike test for heart rate (40').  I recorded avg heart rate, speed and distance.  In the Data Tool, I understand that LTHR is my avg heart rate, but the bike calculator doesnt appear to work without also entering FTP and VO2 values as well.

What am I doing wrong??? (Besides not possessing a power meter!)

  • Troy try using meaningless numbers like 200 and 240. Key in your correct hr and your zones will be calculated.
  • Thanks Tim...it worked.  So the big question now is, why 200 and 240?  Is that a mean average for everyone or is there something more scientific that has blown over my head?  I noticed my max heart rate was significantly lower than what I'm accustomed to...

  • Troy go back to the data tool. Put zero in the FTP and Vo2 number sections then put your heart rate in its spot. It will give you all your zones.

    Let me know image

  • Yep

If not using power zero should go in the fields not pertinent to you. Enter your heart rate and it will generate your zones based on that.

    Best of luck!!

  • Thanks Carl and David...I think I get it now...any value would have worked as it never changed my heart rate zones.  For purposes of inserting the info into the training plan though, 0 value seems to clean things up a bit.

    Thanks again!

  • Ok, I hate to ask a stupid question but I am not up to speed on the overwhelming amount of info here. I started OS on Monday and did run test today. I purchased a Garmin 910 and have been having issues with the install (plan to recitify tonight). Where am I supposed to be capturing and recordiing my test and workout results?
  •  @ Pauls... Test results should be recorded in the training tool, reached under the Training Tab Above > Training Tools > data tool. Enter the info myou have, follow the instructions, click on the red links as needed. In a day or two, your training paces should appear in your online workouts.

As to recording daily workouts ... EN does NOT have an online system for that. Use whatever you have been using up to now. People here use various differenet programs, such as the online TrainingPeaks.com, or the computer based version, WKO+. Garmin has its Training Center, with an online version. I myself use The Athlete's Diary, which is cheap, has Mac, PC, and Mobile versions, and can autmatically update across all platforms via dropbox, from Stevens Software.

  • ok, thanks for your help!
