Can you export workouts built in Garmin Connect??

I have figured out how to export workouts I have built in Garmin Training Center.  However, I am guessing that I am in the minority here using it.  Since Garmin Connect is now able to handle intervals within intervals (e.g. 6 x (4 x 30/30 (2')), I would like to be able to share those with the Team.

Can someone talk me through how to export them so I can upload to my Endurance Nation shared dropbox folder?

Thx.

  • If you go to the workouts tab, you can right click on the my workouts item on the list to the left and right click which will bring up the menu and one option there is to export all workouts.

  • @Anu - I can get that to work for Garmin Training Center, but not for Garmin Connect (connect.garmin.com/workouts). Whenever I right click on those, I get the "standard" right-click menu -- Open Link in New Tab, Open Link in New Window, etc.
  • I don't remember the sequence of clicks, but I've done it before. I have found it useful to download files with power for races that I am going to do and then importing them into wko+. Unless they've changed it, that should still be possible. It's amazing to see what other people do with their power meters. I found one IMC file with a VI of .35 - lot of wasted power. Unless they've changed it, that should still be possible.
  • @Bob - I can download/export the activities. But I can't crack the code on Workouts that I create inside Garmin Connect. I can send the workout to my Devices...but I don't know where that file resides while waiting to be sent via the ANT+ stick. And since I don't know where that is, I can't "intercept" it so that I can send my constructed Workout to someone else.

Frustrating. Especially since the functionality exists in Training Center.

  • Hey Joe - I don't know which kind of Garmin device you are actually using but on my Edge 500 I have to enter the menu and then go to
-> Training -> Workouts -> "MyNewWorkOut" -> Do the workout

Beware that if you are also a Edge user you can't download "Running" workouts!! You MUST specify "Cycling" as sports type in Garmin Connect otherwise the workout just won't appear on your Edge even the SW says that everything worked perfectly sending the info to the device.

Hi Joe - the folders Garmin uses for transfering to device depends on your OS. They are as follows:

    • Windows XP
      • C:Documents and Settings(username)Application DataGARMINDevicesUnit ID folderNewFiles
    • Windows Vista / Windows 7
      • C:Users(username)AppDataRoamingGarminDevicesUnit ID folderNewFiles

Just make sure device is turned off as once transferred it deletes the file. Also kKey point to note though is that file is in "FIT" format not TCX so you may need to convert (though the people you are sending to theorectically could just paste the file into their corresponding folder and ANT agent should load to their device).

Out of interest is there any reason you want to do this in GC when it works fine from GTC (I am still using GTC for setting up workouts)?

  • Kevin - I found those folders. Thanks! Now the next step is to see if you can 'upload' them into your own Garmin Connect. Can you please create a workout in GC and then email the .fit file to me? (joseph.matchette@gmail.com) I want to see if I can 'save' that workout into my Garmin Connect account.

My reasoning for getting more used to GC is that Training Center is not being supported by Garmin anymore. Therefore, at some point, I will have to fully make the switch. Also, I plan on getting a 910 sometime in the (hopefully) near future and I have no idea if it works with Training Center.
  • Hey Joe - mail sent while back, you get the file ok? How did it work out, all good?

    Cheers
