Week 5 Tuesday Intervals

Last week, Patrick confirmed that the move from 4x3'(3') to 5x3'(4') - i.e. the longer RI was CORRECT.

This week's e-mail has us back to 6x3'(3').

What's up?

  • We lightened the load in week 4 b/c of cumulative fatigue, but as next week is test time and you just went a bit (only slightly) lighter, it's time to get in one more work session. Seriously, at the end of the day, we are talking about 1 more minute of additional rest. I could see if we put in 7x3' of work instead of 4x3', or something like that, but an additional minute of rest will not significantly affect the resultant TSS of your workout vice 3'. IOW, it's mostly mental...

  • The 6X3 was tough. I knew on the first one that I was a small bit off from last week and had an extra to do - so took it down a couple of watts. Still hit the 120% for all 6. The 10X30:30 seem so easy after the 3 minute intervals. Definitely like these better than the long FTP intervals.
