How long will opened gel flask keep in fridge?

This is as much about saving money as it is about how long gels last.  Occasionally I mix up too much sports drink or put too many gels into a flask before I take a ride.  Yesterday I put four gels into a plastic flask before what I thought would be a 2.5 hour ride.  After I found the conditions a little uncondicive, I decided to shorten the ride.   So I have four unused gels sloshing around in a flask in my fridge.  I assume I have at least a week or two to use it up.  Does anyone know about how long gels should last in the fridge?  It powerbar strawberry banana if that makes any difference.  If you have an opinion, I wonder how long I can keep a bottle of perform in the fridge.  Thanks.

  • My gel flask went from September to April last year, and I'm still here to talk about it.
  • Yeah pretty sure gel has like a "twinkie shelf life"
  • Sport gels -- essentially indefinite. I have two bottles of HammerGel that I have had in the fridge for at least 18 months: one vanilla, the other espresso. I mix them 4:1 to get a vanilla latte flavor get. Made a batch last month and I am still kicking.

Sport drinks that have protein, though, I won't keep longer than a few days. If no protein, I don't worry about it.
  • Put me the "months" column. I have had huckleberry hammer gel in the garage fridge since last Sping. It tastes and looks "fresh". image
  • I just found some packets of GU from 1999.....think I will toss those.
  • It sounds like non-protein gels/drinks last just about forever in the fridge. I recently used my gel flask after a month in the fridge. It contained 4 strawberry banana powerbar gels and tasted as fresh as the day I opened it. I guess there's no reason to toss a gel flask or bottle of sports drink (non-protein). Just put it in the fridge until the next workout.
  • I throw my gels in the freezer until I need them.
