>> TeamEN 2013 1k Swim “Bring The Pain” TT Challenge!

Time to dust off and put on the Speedo and get ready to hammer out some laps!

This challenge takes place January 16th - January 31st

This challenge is simple:

Head over to this spreadsheet and input your BEST 1k TT ever and your current 1k TT time (if known).  Then hit the water and knock out the 1k and then post your numbers.  This is a great baseline as you start thinking about your 2013 season!

Now get B U S Y!

  • No to be stupid, but I want to be part of this challenge and want to make sure I do it right.

Best 100 yard time EVER for 1k TT - I understand this one. Just need to find some data

Current/recent 100 yd 1k TT PR - For this should I go out do a TT to get my current pace? I have not swam in about 4.5 months so I am assuming yes?

January TT 1,000 Yard Time - Would these two be the same as my current or do I wait until the end of January and test again?
    January per 100/yd pace

Last, what swim workout should I follow for this challenge?

    Aaron:

If you have your best ever dats, great.  If not, no worries.

If you don;t have a current time, no worries either,

For columns C and D, that is where you put your TT time and TT 100 yd pace for this challenge.

The swim is to just hammer it out.  Freestyle, baby!  Or you can be like Coach Rich and do it all butterfly!

  • I did this today, and it felt nice to get in the pool. I'm not sure if the time was good at all, but it is nice to set a baseline.
  • Holy Crapola...I can't remember my best time....is that bad??  I did a 1k test back in November and input that. That will be my baseline, it can only get better from here.....right???

  •  did a 1000m TT today.  Never done that before in the pool.  Wasn't pretty since all I have done since octoer is the occasional 25-30minute drill session (less than 1/week), but I set the bar nice and low so I can look forward to lots of improvement!

  • Hey - I must confess...

I have been swimming at least once a week doing mostly drills since the new year and if I can get in a second, I might throw in some 100meter repeats. All just so that I wouldn't suffer at this 1000yd swim test like I did last year. I didn't swim from 1 Nov to this test last year and I thought I was not going to make the 1000meters!

Interesting note - I haven't lost a lot of speed with this minimal swimming! BTW - I have a SCM pool, so my TT was actually 1000m at 17:02 and I used the datatool to calculate for yards! If I get the time, I'll do this again and see if I can knock that last second or two off so I can match or better where I left my swimming at the end of last season!

Good luck to all those knocking it out this week!

  • Hey - was able to knock 12 seconds off! Amazing what one hard LTHR 1000m swim can do for fitness just one week later!

Hope everyone remembers to do the conversion from meters to yards if you are using a meter pool!
  • I swam 12 x in Dec and Jan (1-2 x /week, 200-2300 yds each), then two weeks of, then tested today: 16:29, 30 s slower than my best last year. I think 12 weeks of HIM training should get me back to sub 16 territory, which owuld equate to maybe 35 minute 1900 m swim.
  • So, I did this test today as part of my GF plan. Talk about humbling, although midway through someone hopped into my lane to share it. I hate it when the person I share a lane with takes some 60 seconds to do a single length and has a big wide floppy stroke - and then harps on ME for not giving him enough room. Great! Smacking my fingers on the lane marker on one side and getting cuffed every so often on the other.

Anyway... My first 1000 Yard TT came in at 19:03. A 1:54.3 per 100 pace. I suck. Now what do I do with this number?

That is your T Pace. Workouts will prescribe intervals based on it, such as "6x100(10")@ TPace minus 2-3". Means intervals@ 1:52, 10sec rest between. Like an FTP or VDOT, but for swimming.
