Re: Daily workouts
Hey guys,
I just finished the Wednesday bike/run and was wondering are these workouts meant to be brick workouts? Also I noticed that tomorrow has a 3 hour bike and a 1 hour and 20 minute run. Are these workouts to gauge out fitness level for next week's test or can I split them up on another day. The reason I'm asking is it's obviously difficult to find 4:30 hours to train during the week. Any thoughts on shifting them to Sat./Sun workouts instead? Thanks so much for your help!

Ted, did nobody respond to this? That's what it looks like -
Let's see...
Wed Bike Run - BEST (for training, not necessarily for the rest of your life) is to bike early and run in the late afternoon. If you do it as a brick, then typically the run is shortened. I end up either doing a very short run (like 20m with the strides) or missing the run-second, because it's hard for me to fit it all in. EN guidance has been to hit the bike hard, and to do what I can with the run, and then to hit the Wed run squarely.
With regard to the 3 hour bike... what plan are you on, and which week? If you are unable to make the time commitment, then the next step is to reach out on the Micro thread to Coach P with the amount of time that you do have so he can provide guidance on how best to adjust the schedule.
Getting what you need?
Best..
Are you currently a trial member and perhaps viewing a sample plan? I know that happened when I signed up - it was suddenly showing multi-hour bike rides and long runs and I was like 'WTF!?' until I realized it is just showing me how it displays workouts, and not necessarily saying I needed to be doing those workouts.
The big reason I am suspicious that is the case is that during the OS, I don't think any plan to be followed at this time of year includes a 3 hour bike and a 1:20 run. Unless maybe you are in the southern hemisphere and it's currently your spring/summer - but your profile says 'CA', so I assume you are not in the southern hemisphere
First of all...Ditto to what Ryan said...I don't know of any plan that has a 3hr. ride +1:20 run on the heals of the brick you just did.......
Regarding Bike/Run workout days...the rule of thumb is ...do them as you feel or for time managment....ie. if doing the two as a brick in one session is the most conventient way (time/schedule-wise) then do them as a brick...(usually that entail dialing back the time or intensity of the run segment also)....it is actually preferred not to do them as a brick so that your get two solid workouts independently (Bricking only becomes important during the final 6 weeks or so of race prep phase).........
Hope this helps....information on Bricking is in the Wiki Self-coaching section...check it out!....
But definetly check with the coaches on the plan...sounds funny to me.
