Iphone/Ipad bike fit tool

Given the issues that I've been having in the aero position (saddle related--seat is sanding my nzzz off), I've been casting about for a way to fix it while observing the FIST protocols.  Has anyone used this or anything like it?  http://blog.ubersense.com/2012/08/09/triathlon-bike-fit-introduction/

The app is free, and it seems to do what it says; I've played around with it some.

  • It's a pretty awesome app. I've used it a bunch for swimming, a little for running and I've taken some bike pics but haven't spent a lot of time with it yet.

With swimming, it was great to sit down with a coach, have them tell me exactly what's wrong with my stroke and have the ability to see my errors over and over again!

For running, I was just watching for good form. I watched a few good gait analysis videos on YouTube and compared myself to them.

For biking, I've read their great "how to guide" and now need to just sit down and get it done. I've had a professional fit through TTbikefit.com and it will be interesting to see how this compares.

  •  That is pretty amazing. I'm going to get it to work on my running form.

  • Very cool app/tool.
  • I've used it for a bunch of things:

-core work ('am I holding form')
    -treadmill running form,
    -form running drills,
    -pool swimming,
    -Endless Pool swimming,
-bike indoor trainer bike position generally (filmed from the side - the "angle finder"is awesome here)
-bike trainer helmet position and "am i turtling enough" head position feedback (filmed from the side and front)
-bike trainer filmed from the front, in aero, focus on hand position, shoulder / arm position, overall body stability in aero position while in workout
-bike trainer from the rear, focus on (minimizing) rocking hips, identification of lower leg blips like foot twist, knee "kickout" on pedal stroke, etc, watching for bouncing

It's a very good tool that i'll keep using through the OS and in-season. If you want to see something very revealing, do an Ancona-style long ride indoors, and when you're at around the 4hr mark, start to film yourself, watching for form. It's no wonder you see most of the field sitting up in the bars around that point in the race.

The angle capture would be really good for self-mapping to fist protocol; ditto the act of posting the video and asking for feedback in the bike fit thread.
  •  Not to mention helping me finetune my daughters wrist shot from the point!

Great app - I cannot wait to use it. The user interface is super intuitive. There is no reason NOT to have this app. Well, maybe if your iPad is full already....

  • @Chris That is incredible! Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
