Trainerroad & Wahoo Kickr

This is a question for Nate.  I am thinking of preordering the Kickr and using it with Trainerroad.com but I have a simple question.  For our workouts that focus on a range ie 95-100% FTP, do you know if the Kickr will just set it at a certain percent ie. 95% or will it allow us to hit that percentage range ie 95-100%?  Thanks

  • See this video of Nate on a KICKR last fall:

Looks like Trainer Road will "Capture" the KICKR, just as it does for the CompuTrainer, and dictate the resistence as indicated in the workout's intervals. Meaning you will HAVE to work at the watts prescribed; changing gearing will NOT affect the resistence, unless you go out of ERG mode. Good deal if it ever actually comes out.

  • Thanks for the video. So it seems that the slope mode will allow me to try to generate the watts that I am targeting as oppose to the erg mode that presets my wattage. The reason I ask is that I have had a CT in the past (that I sold) and am currently using the E-motion rollers with my power meter. I did not enjoy having to ride at a fixed wattage as it does not seem to simulate a real ride in the sense that there are little peaks and dips in power that occur naturally during riding that are dependent on a host of factors ie. energy level, motivation, etc. With my rollers, I am able to hit my average target wattage range (by going off of the 10s running avg plus instantaneous %FTP) by generating the power rather than matching the power dictated to me by the erg mode. I just want something that is a bit quieter than the rollers so I can watch TV in a relatively quiet setting.
