Should I do a 1/2 IM 8 weeks before my IM distance race

 Hi Coaches,

Was thinking about doing the desert half in Osoyoos, Canada Julu 7th, eight weeks before my Roth Challenge event which falls on August 25th.  I want to become familiar with the desert like, hilly conditions before doing my main A race, Roth Challenge.  Do you think this is too close to the main event, or would doing this 1/2 boost my confidence for the Roth Challenge?

Thanks,

Linda Johnson

  • Linda,
Yes, that works. Just race it to race it, like a half, don't do it as a race rehearsal for Roth
  • I did that exact timing last year and it worked great. I only tapered for a couple of days before the HIM. Then I took a couple of days off afterwards and was right back to almost 5 weeks of legit training (which included the 2 race rehearsals) before I started the taper for my IM.
  • BTW Linda - if you haven't done this race it is FANTASTIC! The race is fairly small - 200-250 folks or so. Very good race, friendly and great volunteers.
I have done the race 4 times.

I am doing Oliver in June same race directors. Was going to do Desert, but opting for a race rehersal at Whistler insteady.
GOOD LUCK and if you have any questions about the race let me know.
