The new year of Road Cycling has started!

***No doping jokes or comments!!!!***

I still love the spectacle of cycling racing.  I'm excited, just noticed my DVR has picked up the first two stages of the Tour Down Under!  And so the season starts!

Comments

  • So excited to see cycling again on the TV!! Especially now that (American) football is winding down. Just wish Universal Sports, who air the Giro and the Vuelta, as well as lots of classics, etc, would get on AT&T U-verse already.
  • I am very excited also, and as a Belgian obviously my main interest goes to the European classic races. Hopefully my little cousin can pull of another big win like last year at Omloop het Nieuwsblad!

  • How do guys track when these races are on? I missed a lot of last season because I just did know when they were...
  • @Dino, like Ben, I love the classics and actively look for those on TV. This time, my DVR saved me. I've got it set to automatically anything called 'Cycling'. That usually catches everything on Universal Sports.
  • @Roy - good tip, but us there a listing or all in one place guide? Then I could add them to iCal.

I grew up with them so know when most of them are.

Last weekend in Feb = Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday and Kuurne-brussels-Kuurne on Sunday.. Milan - San Remo (aka La Primavera) is usually between the middle of March and the start of Spring (march 21). Tour of Flanders is the first Sunday in April. Week before that is E3 Harelbeke and Gent-Wevelgem. Week after Flanders is Paris - Roubaix. Wednesday after that is Scheldeprijs Schoten which is the last of the cobblestone classics.

Then start the climbing classics with Amstel Gold Race (week after Roubaix), Fleche Wallonne (next Wednesday)' Liege-Bastogne-Liege and then the classics are pretty much done and everybody focuses on the Giro.

    Same thing every year!

  • And i wouldn't bother with DVR because very few races are live on TV. Best is to check steephill.tv, i watch all races there live.
  • Here are a couple of dates for interesting races (got them off Sep's website)
    3/02 - 06/02: Challenge a Mallorca
    13/02 - 17/02: Algarve Tour
    23/02: Omloop het Nieuwsblad
    24/02: Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne
    02/03: Strade Bianche (Italië)
    06/03 - 12/03: Tirreno Adriatico (Italy)
    22/03: E3-prijs Harelbeke
    24/03: Gent-Wevelgem
    31/03: Tour of Flanders
    07/04: Paris-Roubaix
  • Openings weekend for the Euro Classics season is this weekend! Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne on Sunday. Excited to be watching while riding the trainer.
  • I use the InnerRing Google Calendar (which you can also download as an iCalendar)

Since we gave up Satellite/Cable for Lent, I'll be trying to watch whatever I can over the internet.
  • Strade Bianchi tomorrow! Tough race with a course somewhere between Flanders & Roubaix but in Italy!
  • Where can I watch Strade Bianchi online?

Where can I watch Strade Bianchi online?

You probably already know about >http://www.steephill.tv/classics/strade-bianche/< I haven't checked the available links, it appears there may be restrictions ($) for the live sites. Good tro try today in advance to see if any video players need to be downloaded, etc.

For some reason, I'm not as into bike racing this year than in the past ...

Steephill.tv and try any of the links. image Should be a fun race, really hoping for a good race for Blanco.
  • This weekend is one of the best races of the season - Paris Roubaix! And it will be live on NBC Sports which is awesome. Who's your pic? I'm going for the surprise win by Stijn Devolder, he can do this kind of work but has been struggling as a bike racer for a couple years. He now seems to be back and had a great race at Flanders last week. I think he'll go in an early attack at the forest of Wallers, the other guys will be looking at Cancellara who now just has to wait since he's got Devolder up front.

Still, the guy i really hope wins will be Sep Vanmarcke for obvious reasons!
  • Will watch if schedule fits. Going to kona today for bike week. Have the Fabian man crush. But will also cheer for your Belgian too.
  • In addition to prohibitive favorite Cancallara, my fantasy team includes young guns looking to make their mark John Degenkolb, Taylor Phinney, and Sebastien Turgot. Overlooking Team Sky is a big mistake, and since they operate as a train, I've got three: Bossan Hagan, Geraint Thomas, & Ian Stannard. Cobble Classic? So who are the Belgian teams pushing? Include Sylvain Chavenal, some guy named Sep. then I filled out my dance card with Heinrich Hassler and Johan Van Summeran.
  • That was one great race to watch at Paris - Roubaix! So proud to see my cousing race like a champ and not sit on Cancellara's wheel which everyone else would have done. So close to the win, hope he realizes what a great race that was since he was mostly extremely disappointed afterwards.
  • Great to see Cancallara use his brains to win when his power alone won't get him there.

Also loving Team Blanco Cycling - I've got to get myself a kit.
  • Gret showing for your cousin Ben.
  • 307 NP for over 6 hours gets you a finish somewhere in the peleton.  Last hour was @ 364 NP.  Nice!
