Weekly Bootcamp During OS?

So a friend of mine (who I have sucked into triathlon slowly but surely) wants to do a 8 week 1x/week bootcamp.  (Groupon offer)  We'd do it one weekend morning per week.  The obedient EN student in me says I shouldn't do it during the OS, we are doing enough work, it will add fatigue, impact recovery, etc. but then the other part of me says I'm pretty weak (upper body) and it would be fun, and would it really kill me, or impact my OS?  My priority is getting faster and focusing only on sprints and olys this season, but some strength would prob help that goal.

W hat do ya'll think?

  • Hard to say. If you have been working out already and this is just a bit different, then I say go for it, but if it is something new, it is going to affect your downstream workouts.
  • Go ahead and do it IF AND ONLY IF YOU WON'T BAG OUT OF A SINGLE RUN WORKOUT AS A RESULT!!!
  • If it's good for the social side of your life, then one possibility is to view it as your triathlon workouts are making you too tired for certain parts of the boot camp...and mellow out on all the jumping or whatever. But I'm with Matt...priority has to be to the key weekend workouts. Maybe you should sell your friend on some good hard indoor biking with you. :-)

If it's really serious "boot camp", then all the things you said about additional wear and recovery etc are right.

From an efficiency point of view in "getting faster", more is not necessarily better here. If you want to do weight room things that might make you faster in the long run, perhaps you should focus on the less glamorous stuff like core work that will make your run, bike and swim posture better.... :-)
