I have gotten a few tweets from newbies looking for info / help on pool running, and know (know!) that we have some good stuff. Especially from Nemo. I just don't know where it is. Calling all WSMs to make this happen...and I will move to the wiki! Thanks!

I'll be going to TOC in May, and lots of the EN Chica's will be at the Cowgirl/Midwest camp in July.  Hope into the Woman's Forum any time and just introduce yourself.  I promise you'll get a warm welcome.

Quick addendum: the late Mr. Stern recommended a straight leg, ankle-extended "sweeping" style of pool running, while others recommend something more closely resembling actual running (or cycling) with the ankle and knee bent. I'm not sure of which is more effective, but can caution that the straight leg sweep, while getting the HR up quicker, puts a huge amount of strain on the pivot point of the hips. (I did too much, too soon with this approach, and ended up with a hip injury ... while i was rehabbing a knee injury in the first place!)

I have been doing a lot of pool "running" and have had similar problems, I am trying to keep leg straight (sweeiping under water) if I do the water running like a cycle, i fear that I am duplicating cycling vs. tryinng to achieve running goals, also can not get heart rate up, it is a touch trade off, but knee injury is worse. It is very frustrating that is for sure. I have been using handles (pool gadgets for arms workout), when I run in water with these I get a better workout, heart rate higher and good work for upper body.
