Sports Bras

Well, I figured if we can talk about peeing on the bike, we can talk about keeping "the girls" in check while training, right?

So I just bought some new sports bras and despite being high/maximum support, there is still too much "movement" for my liking.    I'm an average size (36C) and have tried many different styles.  I have a mirror in my workout room and whenever I catch a glance as I'm running, I think "OMG, I'm one of those women I see at the gym and comment to myself that they need a better bra"

Does anyone have any recos?  (Besides duct tape)  Thanks!

  • Hey Kim,
How's it going!! my recommendation is to check out Title Nine's on-line bra section. http://www.titlenine.com/ . if they don't have the right bra for you no one does!! and the bra is as an important element of your tri kit as any!

    Good luck.. see you soon.

    Marian
  • I am not so well endowed, however Road Runner Sports.com has a great selection and they have just added some new items made by 2XU.  If they can't support you no one can.

  • Hi Ladies - I'm also about 'normal' sized, and i've head great luck w/ bras from North Face.  They're not officially 'compression' bras, but trust me, nothing's moving around there...

  •  I am your size and just bought sport bra from CWX.  Check them out. cWX is newer on the scene .  avail at tri places and some running stores.   I like it keeps the girls in place without looking like u are in straight jacket.  Not  the cheapest, several styles worth it to be comfy.

  • I am usually a 36D and like the CWX as well for Tri's because they dry really quick. I also like the Champion double-dry and really want to try the Booby Trap from title 9. I have a few duo dry from Adidas that are under wire which I love but I am not able to find them anymore. Good luck and let me know what you decide. I am always looking for the "perfect" bra for my size.
  •  A german company makes a line callled dieselschtoppinphloppin.

  • Im a 36C also and I just buy cheapy sports bras from Kohls. I never real had any discomfort and never saw myself in a mirror. EEEEKS now Im gonna wonder if Im one of those women Kim, lol. I know I should really upgrade though. I have a VIP membership to Road Runner Sports so I'll check them out as I'm due for some new bras.
  • I'm with Mary, and like both of the brands she mentioned. I am only a 34A, so almost anything works for me. Heck I sometimes don't even bother wearing one when I ride ;-)

I digress... found a really nice sports bra at Athleta. I love, love, love it, and it looks good on. I've actually worn it when not training as well. I am lucky because there is an Athleta store close to home, so I was able to try on all the different bras until I found the best one. Might be a little more difficult if you have to order online.

Another place I like to get sports bras is Eastern Mountain Sports. They fit nicely, and they hold up really well. Last year at IMLP I wore one that I bought there about six years ago, and it was perfect.
  • I have a fairly new CWX and I gave it the "mirror test" on the treadmill last night.... Not good. Not horrible, but still not good. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations of "allowable movement". LOL I ordered a couple from Title Nine so we'll see how those work. I didn't go with the "Booby Trap" although I was tempted jsut based on the name. I'll provide my reviews when I'm done. Maybe I'll start posting reviews including videos. Maybe that can be my claim to fame... image
  • I highly recommend Moving Comfort bras. Check out their website. I just bought the "chill out" model on sale and it is my favorite. I just purchased another one yesterday because I love it that much! Everything I have tried from them has been great. I am a sports bra addict. Whenever I find a moving comfort one on sale I buy it. They normally run between $38 and $52 depending on the model, but they occasionally go on sale on the website as well as REI. I am a 36C as well.
  • I just ordered the CWX ventilator sports bra. I went to Road Runner Sports but they didnt have it and ordered it, I should have it by Monday. I liked that one because it was mesh and seemed to be a good idea for using it in a tri after being wet from the swim. We shall see. I did check out there Moving Comfort line and they do look really good too, but I didnt try any on. I should have.
  • So I got the CW-X Ventilator bra in the mail today and tried it out on the bike. I liked that it was mesh because it wicked the sweat pretty well. Also, there wasn't a uni-boob feeling to it like my other cheap-o sports bras give me. Soon after the bike workout though I had to take it off, it seems to fit in the cup area ok but it's a tad snug around the bottom band area around my back. I'll try it again on my Sat. run test and see how it feels. I dont know, for $35, it's just ok, not great. I'll keep it but I'm still going to search out other ones. Moving Comfort will be the next one I try.
  • Hi! I think I am like you- any movement is no good. I am 36C and always found any movement painful. While I have a few stretch marks on my boobs from weight loss, I think the reason I don't have more is that I am insistent that they not move. To the point that if I jog down the hall at work, wearing a regular bra mind you, I actually put my arm across my chest because otherwise it hurts.

Title Nine Frog bra, which I believe has been renamed the Booby Trap last time I looked, but I will double check. I have probably 14 and refuse to consider anything else for running. Yes it is total uniboob, smashed look, but I don't care. If you want to "lift and separate" then look elsewhere.

The new 2XU tops are tight, but alone are still not enough for me. I actually think I will look at what some other folks are recommending, but I can't imagine that anything with mesh is going to provide the level of support I prefer.
  • I'vm average size, 36C, as well. I love the Moving Comfort Fiona Sports Bra. It's pricey, $35-$45 depending on whether I can find a sale, but well worth it! It has adjustable velcro straps on the shoulder straps and hook closure in the back. It definitely keeps the "girls" from bouncing around and doesn't cause uniboob. I've worn it for everything from biking of all distances to track workouts to marathons. For the longer runs, I use bodyglide on on the bottom front edge of the sports bra just for preventative measures. I have tried a few others and always gone back to this one.
  • I'm a 36c too...and always in the hunt for "the one"! I used to wear a Victoria's Secret mesh underwire bra for racing but they don't make them anymore and well...I'm getting older and perhaps the topography is changing! image

I wore the Fiona by Moving Comfort for quite a while, until the velcro straps started biting me on almost every run (thining skin compliments of perimenopause!)

I've tried a ton of different bras and finally found the Champion double dry...sort of uniboob, but a better lock down and fair price than most. ($24 on sale) And it should dry out well come race day. I just don't ever want to deal with the irritation of chafing in a long race again. Last year in Spain it was HELL! I need to focus on the run, not think about my boobs chafing lol! image
  • I just got the Moving Comfort Luna sports bra in the mail today. This one is totally different than any other I've owned as it's the kind that separates your boobs, no uni-boob! Seems to fit well when I tried it on and no movement when I did the jump around test. Tomorrow is a bike/run day so I'll try it out for real then. I'll keep you posted after I've given it a thorough test.
  • Some good suggestions here, thanks ladies, I have some shopping to do. My biggest problem is finding a bra that supports...but also doesn't chafe! I bought moving comfort and unfortunately they were awful in this department (fit great but chafing was terrible.) I am a 30/32C and have had good luck with Sugoi brand but they don't seem to make my favourite bra anymore. I will give Nike and maybe some of the others a try as above and see how it it's.

    Thanks.
  • Hi ladies!!
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Enell! I used to wear 2 plus bras to hold down the girls and this bra has changed my fitness life! Only need one bra now and it's amazing. Check it out image
  • All - just ordered 3 different Athleta bras...will let you know how they work out! BTW..they have some really cute clothes, hoping the quality is as nice!
  • Laura- Where do you get Enell? Maybe I'll try "Booby Trap" too.

I tried the Shock Absorber (since renamed) from Title 9 but it didn't cut it for the $80 price tag.

Maybe it would just be easier to cover up the mirror than to eliminate bounce. LMAO
  • I really like UnderArmour sports bras- nothing moves! Unfortunately I just went to look on the website to see if I could find the one I have and couldn't. Bummer.
  • Just an FYI, if you like the Moving Comfort bras, they always have them on Swim Bike Sell at a very discounted rate.  http://www.swimbikesell.com/collections/moving-comfort  A few of you mentioned the Fiona, which is on there for $21.99, limited sizes.  They also have the Endurance Racer, altho I am not sure about that back.

However, I think it's no returns, which is why I love places like Athleta, where you can "wear it for a workout".  I am a fan of the smash and compress- I even prefer my swimsuits that way. Good luck keeping the girls in check ladies!

  • Looks like I missed this thread.  I am a 36DD and like the

    Women's Moving Comfort

    Fiona Bra

    or Juno Bra.

They are at Roadrunner or I get it at a local running store.  I swim in it for races and no issues there either.  Good luck!
