Cobb HC 170 saddle

Anyone have experience with the Cobb HC 170 saddle?  I have been having problems with finding a saddle that doesn't cause chafing and saddle sores. I have tried the Cobb Vflow Max, Selle Smp 109 lite, and several by specialized.  Today I was fit for a HC 170. Rode a short trial ride then the 3X8 min. OS workout for today. So far seems ok. I have read that this saddle is rarely recommended for women, and not recommended for long distance. I am doing my 3rd IM ( Coer d'alene) and NEED something that is not killing me!

  • That sounds rough. I got lucky with the Vflow Max and have not changed it since I got my retul fit.
  • I use the 170 on my road bike and I love it. Although I use a Cobb Flow on my tri bike for most of my in-season training, I have done many, many 4-5 hour rides on the 170 without discomfort.

  • I've ridden a couple different Cobb saddles, but not that one. One thing I will say about my experience with Cobb saddles, is that they don't work well with regular padded bike shorts. Tri shorts or the Desoto 400 mile shorts work well for me, anything else and the pad causes chafing. If you havent tried the Cobb vflow plus, that would be a good one to try.
  • I LOVE my vFlow Plus. I have only but good things to say about it.
  • Thanks for the input. I am going to give the HC 170 a trial run. It sounds like the Vflow plus is a compromise between the HC 170 and VFlow max. That will be my next try if this doesn't work.
