Lake Placid accomdations???

So I and 2 of my Tri group friends just signed up to volunteer at Lake Placid this summer. Called a bunch of places and it seems like most places are sold out. Anyone know of a place for 3? One thing we aren't looking to do is camp, I dont do camping, lol. Just wanted to throw something out there and see if anyone knew of a place or was looking to share with us.

Cant wait to volunteer and hopefully get my foot in the door for my first IM in 2014.

  • is the Marriott booked?
  •  One option if Placid is booked is to call the Wilmington hotels.  Wilmington is 14 miles from Lake Placid on Route 86.  Businesses there that support bike racing and tri's include:

    Mountain Brook Lodge

    Ledge Rock @ Whiteface

    Birch Tree Lodge

    Hungry Trout Resort

    Alpine Country Inn & Suites

    Grand View Motel

    Willkomen Hof

The other option if Placid is filled is Saranac Lake, which is 8 miles from Placid.

    Cheers.

  • I forgot North Pole Motel & Campground and Whiteface Chalet in Wilmington.
  • You could also consider staying in Ticonderoga or Plattsburgh and drive in that morning. There were a bunch of volunteers last year that did that. I actually drove up from Albany where my family lives the morning of the race. The bad part was I slept in my car the night after the race (camping would have been better) because I didn't feel like driving back to Ticonderoga or Plattsburgh at 1am. It's pretty easy to sneak into the Mirror Lake Inn and take full advantage of thier gym facilities (hot tub/pool) and showers though (I ate dinner there so I didn't feel too bad about it) image

There is a Hampton Inn and Suites currently under construction right on the course road along Mirror Lake that is supposed to be open in June of this year. http://www.timesunion.com/business/article/Construction-on-new-Lake-Placid-hotel-starts-4023236.php

I'd keep checking Hilton.com to see when it appears in their system and it will usually list a date when they will start taking reservations.
  • IMLP peeps - the Ross's and the Pilon's are coming to Lake Placid to volunteer this year. The Pilons have accomodations but we need help. Does anyone have any room at the inn. We will probably arrive around 10pm on Thursday and leave Monday morning. You can PM me directly so we do not plug up the dashboard and if one of the group members could put my request on that dashboard I would appreciate it. Thank team. Hope someone can help
  •  If you stay in Plattsburgh, your best bets are the Hampton and Comfort Suites.

  • Thanks for all the tips!

    is the Marriott booked?

    Yes.

  • fear not... the weeks leading up to the race, bed spaces will open at hotels in/around LP (including Wilmington and Saranac Lake). At this time of year, several hotels and rental are seeking a 5 day minimum. In July, when cancellations pop up, rather than have empty beds, rooms and rentals become available w/ little or no minimum night stay. Several options around the area, including Plattsburgh (about an hour drive). Staying south (Glens Falls or Lake George can pose problems, as the inbound roads from the Adirondack Northway or more difficult to access race morning, due to traffic. You should look in Jay, Keene, Keene Valley, and Saranac Lake (if you have not done so already). Plenty of camping in/around the area.
  • Actually got a room today at the Alpine Inn and Suites. It's 12.5 miles north of LP. 4 night min. stay but that's ok I wanted to go up and ride/run the course so that's fine by me. My volunteer duties start at 6am and go until midnight at the finish line. Looking forward to seeing some EN'ers out there!
  • Got accomodations.
  • Brenda, where are you staying?
  • Whiteface Chalet
    @whitefacechalet.com

Have stayed there 3 times. Nice place, but far away from town.
