February Catch Up Crew: Week 2

It seems like we're all excited to be back in the game... I certainly hope that if you're getting hammered by snowmageddon like me (with wave 2 coming tomorrow )  you're making do.

Amazingly enough, my gym was open the last few days despite the terrible weather and the beau has 4WD and managed to get me there (I got him a week pass and he liked it well enough to sign up for a 30 day trial membership) so I could do my Saturday brick and my Sunday run/swim combo (I ran 30 minutes straight and did laps and kicked 1250m, before my hand got tired -- woo hoo!)!

I plan to get home in the morning tomorrow to spend some time on my trainer and bond with my cats (even the one that bit me, "Sid Vicious") before the next phase of the storm hits... hopefully I'll be able to find a gym to do the 5k run test on a dreadmill Wed.  I'm already a month behind running in OS and don't want the storm to set me back any more...

I still haven't started PT, which is really frustrating.  I was cleared last week but the appt got canceled bc of weather.  It's now set for Thursday, but I'm not optimistic it will hold if we get another 10-20" of snow... grr... trying to be hopeful!  I'll keep you posted.

Stay warm and dry.  Happy healing and training!

  • Did my 3x8's on the trainer this morning.  The weather was actually nice enough to ride outside (33 and no wind) but we've had a LOT of flooding and the roads here are simply covered in ice patches.  Just not safe to ride out there right now .  But I know I have NOTHING to complain about!

Got them done and it served as a good reminder of the mental toughness needed to do these indoors.  I posted the power details in the Jan Thread.  Even though I still can't run, I'm finally starting to feel like things are returning to "normal" again.

  • we got 7.2" of snow on Monday that shut us down.... so I haven't gone anywhere as my kids are home.. three days off school! so I have been running with the dog as best as I can while bundling up.  That left side still feels "tight" so I havne't gone past 3 miles.

  •  Nice job, Nemo!  Yes, mental toughness is the name of the game...and I'm stuck indoors for a while regardless, so I can certainly relate.

Marianne, be careful running outside in this weather!

So yesterday I did the 2x12s on the trainer.  ugh... but that was better than today's 5k run test.  I've worked my way back up to 30 minutes but haven't pushed it on speed.  Never having done one of these I didn't know what pace to shoot for on the dreadmill - so I went for a bit quicker than my half marathon PR knowing it was just 3 miles.  Man, it was a challenge - and I do think it was more mental than physical... I usually play games with myself the last 5-6 miles of a marathon, but having to psyche myself up for the last mile of a 3 mile run was not something I was expecting.  But I did it... thinking ahead to my goal for the season (my first IM) and knowing I'd be checking in with all of you ... many who can't run yet.  So, I did my best and finished - never touching the pace.  I've never been a sprinter and I know I have a long way to go, but I'm glad I kept at it so I got a good test result.

Another day off tomorrow.  Hopefully I can start PT and get home to hope on my trainer for another set of 2x12s.

    Go Team!!!
