I am in week 1 of 6 Bike focus then switch to HIM with Quassy as goal. My IMFL is late, not until Nov. Is anyone adding swimming to their workouts or increasing the length of the run on alternate bike days? I did not swim one iota in NOS but thinking I should start soon
I am doing Quassy too. The run focus has one swim per week (and an optional second swim). So I swam yesterday for the first time since Rev3 Maine last August. Felt a little like a spaz at first, and have some sore muscles that I have forgotten today! I plan keep swimming 1 - 2 times per week through the run focus, working mostly on drill and technique for the first four weeks or so, then easing into the regular swim workouts. Should be good to go for the half-ironman plan after that I think.
The first couple of times in the pool, go with no expectations. Focus on staying aware of your body position, breathing, ... and maybe even just enjoy it. Then ease into the work.
I'm doing a hybrid bike/ run focus. Basically the bike focus with some of the longer runs from the run focus. I'm back to swimming 3 days a week, just 30 min a session in order to get some stamina back.
I'm in the 3rd week of the bike focus plan set to end on March 10th. Rich put me in the bike focus because of an injury that prevents me from logging serious run mileage. I think by the time the bike focus is up i'll be able to transition into the GF plan and from there to the IM plan. There are no swims in the bike focus (at least not yet) but i have been working in 2 swims per week and have not had any problems with the load so far. I also have been doing short runs almost every day just to get my body back into run mode.
Melanie, your swim will come back quickly. Just take it easy and as others have said, keep expectations dial back until you get your swim legs back.
Hey Melanie - I'm also doing a bike focus right now. In week 2 of the INT plan. It's not easy because I'm doing LOTS of running in prep for Around The Bay (30km) on March 24, so it's almost like doing two plans in one.
Still managed my 60min workout this morning with 2x12min @ 95-100% though. I'm pretty happy with the plan as it seems to be going well; although my legs are taking a beating
Thanks all for your comments - looks like we are all trying to juggle different things at once. I am registered for a 1/2 marathon in March and wanted to up my weekly mileage plus I think I need to get some swimming in as well. Good luck to all!!!
I'm in the bike focus, but hacking it over the next week and a half to keep in sorta-top run shape for a half marathon on 2/24, which I'm using as an end-OS run test (since my pre-OS run test was a half marathon).
A little late on this one but I'm in a bike focus not sure if I do three weeks or five. I had planned to do two weeks on the run but may just stick with the bike and then over to the get faster plans for 4 weeks.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one trying to overachieve. I've started the bike focus but am also upping the running in prep for a half marathon. Also started swimming- man was that ugly!
