Alex Hutchinson he writes that your potential is in your genes

Tweeted to me today @chiefbosn1 by Alex Hutchinson he writes that your potential is in your genes.

We all know that life is unfair. Put a dozen people through identical exercise programs and some will thrive, most will make modest improvements and a few – perhaps two or three – won’t see any gains at all. That’s just the way it goes.

  • Interesting blog - be wary, DTC (Direct to Consumer) genetic tests are not regulated by FDA - it is difficult to validate these tests.  Also, keep in mind epigenetics - even though you may inherit that particular DNA sequence the gene expression can vary from individual to individual and change due to environmental factors.  SNP variation has been correlated to many behavioral attributes even ability for modern dancing image!
  • Things I believe:

Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard.

Everyone can improve from wherever they start out.

Fitness and body composition/size are two different metrics.
  • I totally agree with Al. Hard work is the story of my life! Never the most talented but always had a commitment to succeed, something many of my teammates did not have. That said it did take me a lot longer time to achieve success but I did. Interesting if you take a read the "My Tri Story Tread" it broadly supports this.
