Using MPH on bike v. HR during OS
I don't currently have a power meter and train via HR, but during the OS when the workouts are 95%-100% (for those training with power), can I just use what my avg Speed/MPH was during my test for those sessions? The thought is is HR can flucuate based on many different variables, so if I use MPH, when the workout calls for 95%-100%, then I will be getting the most out of the workout.
I understand that speed doesn't correlate to power directly, but thought maybe just for the 95%-100% workouts it would work. I'm doing all these on trainer.

$100 for the ant+ stick and speed-cadence sensor plus $10 a month for a progressive training solution.
Speed is also very subjective on the trainer....subject to tire pressure, trainer mount...etc....I don't think mph is a good proxy....HR is still a biological marker measurement of effort...and better than speed..........but agree with everyone that for the investment TrainerRoad is great.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into Trainer Road until I get my power meter. Quick questions. I currently have a Garmin speed/cadence sensor. Do I need to get a different one for TR to work? Where do you get the ANT+/USB sticks?

You guys are the best!
I use the GSC-10 and the Ant+ stick with TR, so you are golden. Enjoy TR. It's the best.
