With testing right around the corner....

Just wanted to see how most of you set goals for testing.  How much above your FTP do you shoot for if you have been comfortably hitting your target numbers the last few weeks?

Same for the run-I've been hitting my Z4 numbers quite comfortably the last few weeks-how far above and beyond do you shoot for?

  • @Lauren, this will be an interesting topic, one that is asked routinely each OS too and there will be all kinds of feedback.

    I myself tend to break the TT into thirds, 1st 3rd I warm up to current FTP over the first couple of minutes. The 2nd 3rd, I bump it a bit to feel things out and keep it steady, maybe like 5-10 watts, then the final 3rd I go hard, I don't look at my wattage I will monitor cadence though in this last 3rd as I don't want to grind for the sake of higher output.

    I approach the run test the same way. Enjoy.

  • You should be able to target a 5-8% bump in FTP, be careful not to over do it in the first few minutes of the test or you'll pay for it by the end. I tested today due to a conflict next week and gained 6%.
  • I'm like Tim. I do it approximately the same way.
  • x3 on what Tim said. My first test was balls to the wall right from the get go, and I pretty much ran out of gas. That sucked.
    Second one went much better.

  • I personally go the first 10' at my current / known FTP ability...then the final 10' is a whole new exploration of my personal hell.... image
