Goruck challenge - anyone ever do this?

I know someone who just did this in Charlotte this past weekend.  Seems like a pretty cool event.  I'm not much for the obstacle races - I tend to prefer tri's specifically because they DONT involve going through mud - but this seems different because it's more a team building challenge as opposed to a race.  Plus, if you > 150 lbs, you have to carry 6 bricks around the whole time - which can be 12+ hours.

I get a lot of pie-in-the-sky ideas, and mine for today is that it'd be cool to sometime get a bunch of EN'ers to form a team for something like this.  Of course, other pie-in-the-sky ideas include: eventually doing every US IM; doing IM cozumel and turning it into a week long scuba diving trip.  However neither of those ideas have panned out just yet either.

  • First I've heard of this one, Ryan. How did you come across it?
  • I saw FB postings this weekend from a friend of mine, saying her husband was doing this GoRuck thing whether it was going to rain or snow that night (it was in Charlotte, NC).  Then I saw random pictures from the event on her board later that evening and into the next morning - followed by a post-event shot of him double-fisting DQ sundae's in bed, because it hurt too much to move.  So, naturally, that piqued my interest, and I started looking into it.

Just seems like a cool thing to do with your fitness image

  • They don't give a lot of detail on what it's like - looks like they're going after the set that gets misty-eyed dreaming about basic training... good overlap with cross-fit.
I'd be into it but I can't - between family (job 1), work (job 2), and my tri race plans, it would be misguided at best - but there is definitely something intriguing here -
Let us know if you go forth...
