FTP Pool
So footballl and basketball and even moms-to-be have baby pools, so why not an FTP pool?
Let's post our current VO2/FTP, realistic new test FTP/VO2, and "Maybe I could" numbers and any details/rationale for your guesses. No prizes, unless anyone has an idea. Just curious.
FTP
Current: 152
Realistic: 160
Maybe: 168
I haven't hit 100% as frequently in the WKOs as in previous OS so unsure how that will net out....
VO2
Current: 190
Realistic: 195
Maybe: 200
I do much better w/ VO2 so I'm gonna try to hit 200, just cuz.

I think everyone in the JOS will have some sort of bump. Now some big some small but it's still progress!!
Well I've not really tested but at least the latest WKOs gave me a pretty good picture of where the story ends currently
So here are my predictions:
Run
22:10 = 44.03 vDOT Goal
22:59 =42.19 current (42.3)
21:55 =44.62 Stretch Goal
Bike
Vo2 current 283
FTP current 223/AP 236
Vo2 goal 305
Vo2 stretch goal 310
FTP goal 247.5
FTP stretch goal 252.5
I switched PT units a few weeks ago, and I am psychologically convinced this one is ~1% "harder" than the last one (meaning my apparent numbers are 1% lower than htey would be on the old one.), but who knows
Ironically, i think what I have done with my bike FTP is "stretched" it, meaning that I'm really able to hold the power that I'm supposed to a lot better than I could before. I am going to give it a go, but I'm not sure that the numbers will get notably better on the straight 20 min test. My strategy will be to hold the number I need to repeat the current FTP for the first 5-10 min and then see what I can do from there.
On the run side, I feel pretty much the same. My first test - I went out too fast and then totally died at the end, but turned myself inside-out and finished with an ok time. I think I could probably get that time a little easier now, but I am not certain about how much faster. I will almost certainly, however, go out too fast, start to die..... :-)
Some day, I would sure like to see a number that starts with 18 for a 5K, but I fear that I'm entering the AG where getting any faster is just harder and harder.

The run - always abit of guess and yes - sometimes no bump at all (and that's okay so long as you still do the work).
Bike:
Wk #1 FTP: 240
Wk #8 FTP: 262 most likely / 270 wishing
Wk #1 Vo2: 288
Wkl #8 Vo2: 310 most likely / 315 wishing
Run
Wk #1 vDot: 42.5
Wk #8 vDot: 44.2 likely / 45.5 wishing
Wk #1 was my lowest tested vDot to date so I'm expecting a higher uptick than usual this go around.
Good luck to all!
Well if Pete went, I guess I'll play along as well... (FYI, I re-tested my bike FTP week 4 because it seemed way too low)
Bike:
Wk#1 FTP: 285
Wk#4 FTP: 312 (I switched to a different Powertap and I swear it must be calibrated differently and must be easier)
Wk#8 FTP: hoping for 320 (dreaming of 325) (Same PT as wk#4)
Wk#1 VO2: 336
Wk#4 VO2: 375 (I switched to a different Powertap and I swear it must be calibrated differently and must be easier)
Wk#8 VO2: hoping for 380 (dreaming of 390) (Same PT as wk#4)
Run:
Wk#1: 21:12 for a VDot = 46.52
wk#8: hoping for 21:05 for a VDot = 46.82
wk#8: dreaming of 20:55 for a VDot = 47.26
That said...I started the season at 239 and am now at 254. I'd like to finish the indoor season with a test at 260, and DREAM of hitting 270 in an outdoor test at some point this summer. That would be really awesome. Unlikely, but awesome.
On the run I raced a 5k with a 48.5 VDOT but that was for sure a bad race and I'm terrible at the 5k distance in any case. I only do run tests in races and my next race is a March 16 on half marathon. I'm dreaming of running that in sub-1:30 because I'm not getting any younger and I'd love to be able to have a sub-1:30 half-marathon PB in my lifetime!! Not sure if I can pull it off but theoretically it should be do-able since thatis a 51 VDOT and last year I ran an 8k at a 51.5 VDOT and I feel like I'm in about the same running shape and doing my intervals in training at about the same paces AND am doing 75 minute runs on Sundays instead of the 60' runs I was doing last year. So who knows, but now the goal is out there, so I'm going to be held accountable for my performance!!!
So I couldn't wait! I did my FTP test this morning... I can say that I left absolutely everything on that bike. It helped that Pandora decided to grace me with Rage Against the Machine's "Burn" for the last 2.5 minutes which is exactly what I felt and exactly what I needed!!! I crushed even my best case scenario. This last block of the OS is gonna hurt, hurt, hurt!
VO2 = 399W
AP for the 20' according to TR was 352W
New FTP = 334W
I weighed 187.0lbs after the test. For a 3.93W/Kg.

That's a f*$$*ng awesome number John!! I don't wanna have your zones for the upcoming 2x20' FTP Ride
BTW- can you spare 9W. I only need 9 more to get to 200 and since you have so many I thought maybe
Well - I reported by bike test in the regular week 8 thread, but just to follow up here.
Bike:
Wk #1 FTP: 240
Wk #8 FTP: 262 most likely / 270 wishing
ACTUAL = 266 - so smack in the middle of most likely and wishing
Wk #1 Vo2: 288
Wkl #8 Vo2: 310 most likely / 315 wishing
ACTUAL = 323 so exceeded my goals.
FTP
Current: 152
Realistic: 160
Maybe: 168
ACTUAL: 163 (+7%)
VO2
Current: 190
Realistic: 195
Maybe: 200
OK, this doesn't count cuz my current was really 196. DOH!
NEW ACTUAL: 206 (+5%)
Guess I was pretty close to my estimates but gains seem lower than the rest of JOS group! Going to try to step it up in the last 6 weeks of th OS, which might be hard at new numbers!
Week 1 VO2 = 217
Week 8 VO2 = 237
Week 1 FTP = 201
Week 8 FTP = 198
I love the EN training compared to my coach last year. I expected a learning curve and it looks like "a slow but steady ride wins the race"
End Results
Run did a 21:31 = 45.6 vDOT (surpassed my stretch goal)
Bike Vo2 = 315 (surpassed my stretch goal)
Bike FTP = 236/AP 248 which is what I train at instead of subtracting the 5%.
