Operation GoPro -- 2013 Total Course Domination

I just picked up a GoPro for my swim clinics and have fallen in love with the thing. It's simple, indestructible, and has incredibly high-quality video. Which got me thinking...how can we as a Team get tons of on the course video from all the major races? I am not talking about videos while racing (too many butts to look at!) but rather videos from training rides on the course. I was thinking GoPro mounted to bars/bike and then you ride the course...

So, who's down? Who has a GoPro and who would need the EN set up to make this happen? How do we mount to tribars?

Let's figure this out!

  • Been wanting to get one of those....so many cool things to do with it.

    It's on my Christmas list.

And, if that happens to happen, I'll try to recon the only WTC long course that is close by to me, Augusta 70.3.

But, that would be spring or summer or 2014.

  • GoPros are great.  I have two of them.     They can pretty much mount to anything.  I've mounted mine on my bike a couple times and I've found that it really picks up the vibrations from the road and makes for a really jittery video.  Mounting on the helmet is an option but you also pick up all the head movements but will produce the best video with the least vibration on the bike.  The "Chesty" camera mount is an option but because it is on your chest your arms will be in the picture.  Reverse the chesty and you are only seeing what is behind you.

Really the best option to capture course videos is the mount it to the hood of you car or motorcycle and drive the course.  You get all the advantage of a smooth unobstructed video with out all the vibration and need for mount it to the bike.  If you want to get bikes in the video you can mount it to a SAG wagon.  Really the best option IMO.

  • I don't have one by my own but I'm pretty sure I can borrow one easily so if anyone is interested in the IM-Austria course I could do that very very easily - just give me a call image
  • There are a few bike courses using GoPro from the bike. I watched some of the videos from the Kona race. It looks like a good adventure and then edit/narrate for the important areas and then post....great idea!
