Two weeks w/o SBR...what to do!

As you can see in this thread about my feet (http://members.endurancenation.us/F...fault.aspx), as of Fri 3/1, I'll be completely forbidden from doing SBR workouts for two whole weeks; while I wait for the sutures to be removed after the procedure on my feet.

Anything that has to do with pushing and/or pulling while standing, etc, will be verboten. I'll have some very nice full blown cast-like boot things to prevent me from having anything to do with normal workouts, so I need alternatives!

I imagine stuff like situps/crunches, dumbbell presses, etc, where my feet are stationary, but not under 'pressure', will be fine. Upper body stuff too should be fine. Anyone have dryland swim workouts they can suggest?

So, what to do in the meantime? Suggestions?

  • A few thoughts:

get a set of stretch cords, lay down on a bench, and get strong!

Pushups and pullups (can you get to 100 and 30?)

some gyms will have access to the hand cycle machine, to give an aerobic workout if you need "the crack"

Maybe take these two weeks to really focus on cleaning up the diet, and seeing what that can do for you without the added stress of intense workouts?
  • Hey Scott, I have been using stretchy cords for swimming. I wont bore you with a description on how to do an exercise go to you tube there must be hundreds of them out there. I am working on sets of 3 x 30ish .

It is a minimal investment with a high return on earnings.

Best of luck going through that with major recoveries heading your way.

  • As I am rehabing an ITB the things that come to mind are, stretching and anything to strengthen your glutes and hips. Side leg lifts (can you do those?). Maybe some glute exercises, such as while standing raise your leg behind you squeezing your glutes, you might be able to do those with a cast on...

good luck, maybe just enjoy the down time...
  • Why do you hate sloth and ice cream?

  • @rich, because I've got an ironman in less than six months and I've been a sloth over the winter already. Downright fluffy over here!!
  • Relax and be happy it's not six weeks..... image
  • Did I mention I'm kinda Type A? haha
  • I would catch up on all the magazines I never finish.
  • Here's your opportunity to try that new hobby you never had time for previously. Learn how to cook or knit or tie fishing flies - play angry birds for hours. Forced down time can be a massive mental drain, occupy your mind with something completely new.
