Week 10 of HIM - should I be worried about my swim?

I transitioned from the OS into week 9 of HIM after 2 transition weeks.  I didn't swim during the OS, and 3 times/week during the transition weeks just to get used to the water again.  In HIM, I'm swimming 3 days/week (Mon, Tues, Fri), each time about 2,800 yards.  Endurance is not a problem; however, I struggle w/ pace (and therefore, I'm assuming, form) on Tuesdays, which is essentially a repeat of Monday's sets, which include many sprints.  Long story short, I'm about 10 secs slower per 200 yds than on Mondays.  I'm not the greatest swimmer to begin with (t-pace =1:48), so I'm worried.  Or more precisely, I'm wondering if I should be worried and make some changes to prescribed swim drills on Tuesdays? Or am i overthinking?

  • Kate, No worries... you just finished the class and you know what you need to work on. Yea things fall apart as you get tired but you are on a build with your HIM program. Follow the plan don't over think it or be creative and change it.
If the class was two months ago you could have done 2 swims in the OS per week for drills and feel for the water etc... This is not the case however you have 9 weeks to go so get on your HIM horse and ride it. After a few weeks in the water you will feel better and on race day your going to put your wetsuit on and fly thru the water.
  • Swimming speed comes around faster than you'd expect. In six weeks, you'll be holding pace Mon-Tues. Keep doing the 3x a week, and you'll be fine on race day.
  • Kate, I saw you swim at the NJ event.. I do not think you will have any issues at all.
  • I came in about same time week 8 in January. Im now in week 15 for an early HIM. Maybe the first week was tough but the memory came back. I worked technique solid. Not to worry.
  • Thanks for the feedback guys.  I'll keep chugging along (and maybe try to incorporate more drills...)!
  • Hi Kate
I have trouble with Tuesday's swim because of the impact on Monday's swim. Don't tell the coaches, but I do my second swim on Wednesday.
    Ymmv though.
