Top Tube Bag

Has anyone used this as a top tube bag? I'm mainly looking for a place to put salt tabs, etc during IM, but also wouldn't hurt to have a place for my phone during training. I'm not committed to anything in particular, this popped up frequently on ebay when I was perusing. Looking for something that is functional and won't break the bank.

  • I have a fuel belt one and love it. They come in all shapes sizes and colors
  • x2 on Fuel Belt. I believe it is EN recommended.

  • top tube brevet bag.   more roomy and versatile than anything else.

Dark speed bag for the down tube.

  • Robin- thanks for posting that Dark Speed Bag, it might just be the solution I've needed. I have essentially no stem high and with the cables routing behind the stem, there's nothing to strap the dang bags to unless they are so small nothing fits in them. So that bag might work for me.
  • Nemo, my bike routes the cables directly behind the stem as well and have the same issues with top tube bags that velcro around the stem.

I use the Dark Speed Works bag for my top tube that Robin linked and it has always worked very well. Just be forewarned, it's not a very high capacity bag due to it's shape, but it's low-profile, aero and secure if you mount it right.

  • I use the Dark Speedwork bag as well, but I use the Speedpack 480 instead on my P3. You can either work the front velcro through the cables and around your stem (my stem is cut off with 0 spacers) or simply loop them around the cables themselves. The bottom velcro straps keep the thing really secure on your top tube and it doesn't flop around like many of the others. I didn't mention it earlier, because it is not cheap... It is really nice for racing. (If you have Top Tube bosses, then the 480D is also really nice, fits perfectly on the P5)

That one on Amazon is a much higher capacity and certainly cheaper, but also not as "aero"... Really depends on what is important to you. My Dark Speedworks bag fits a small container with salt pills and 2 Powerbars. Enough to get me through 56 miles to BSN. I can squeeze my Droid phone into it with 1 Powerbar, but barely. The one from Amazon that you posted earlier was cool because it looked like you could actually see your phone through the top clear section which would be a bonus...
  • On my Fuel Belt one, I put the velcro tab thingies under the cables and works fine.
  • I bought the dark speed works 483 for my 2010 transition. the only issue is because it tapers it seems that small items (crack pipe etc.) may get caught or hard to reach.

I'll report back after I've used it in real word scenarios.
