Cycling Shoes

I am looking to get a new pair of cycling shoes for this upcoming season. I would like to be able to get something that I can use for both triathlon and road racing if possible. Does anyone have any recommendations on shoes? I currently use Shimano TR-52 shoes and have had no problems with them. It's just time they get replaced!

If not, what are some budget friendly shoes for both Tri and Road that you'd recommend?

Thanks!

  • I love my Sidi T2's. They are around the same price as your TR-52s. And they are a flashy silver. image what more can you ask for?

And they are indestructible. I have the new silver ones, but still use my patriotic red, white and blue T2s Ive had since 2000. If they fit, Sidi shoes are the best value, even at their high price.
  • Shoes are so subjective that it's a tough thing to really recommend to others. People who have been around for long enough seem to all eventually arrive at the conclusion that a good pair of shoes is something that is worth the investment, as Al points out, so 'budget friendly' might not be your best overall value in the long run if your shoes that cost 2x as much end up lasting 3x as long.

Personally, I really like Specialized shoes, I suppose they just fit my feet well and I really prefer the fit I get out out of the Boa system versus conventional straps or ratchet. Still, for a more budget friendly shoe that would be pretty well suited for both road and tri, I'd tip my cap to the Sidi T2 as well.
  • Yes shoes are very subjective. Sidi was just a little too narrow for my boats.  I've worn Specialized for years and even tried their newer tri shoes but have just turned to Bontrager Hilo tri shoe with carbon sole. There are running about $175. I have wide feet so they have the perfect wide toe box for me as well as excellent heel grip. I sized down 1/2 size and use Sole inserts. I have no slippage at all and yes I am now bias.
