Stages Power Meter - Revisited

I see that this has been discussed before, but has anyone taken the plunge with a Stages Power Meter?

  • I think DC Rainmaker's review turned off a lot of people. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/01/stages-power-meter-in-depth-review.html

"In summary, at present I don’t feel that the Stages Power unit will work for me as my primary power meter. The variations in data from workout to workout, and the variations within a workout make it difficult to analyze and come to meaningful conclusions on power-focused workouts. I do however feel that with more work on the software side, they may be able to stabilize some of the power outputs and ultimately simply have a known offset (due to left-leg power). However, there are still significant unanswered questions around how stable ones power balance is from left to right on both an individual basis, as well as throughout varying conditions over the course of training or racing."
  • A roadie and now virgin triathlete friend of mine just ordered one. He read the DCR review and decided to take the plunge anyway. He lured in by low prices and more recent reviews promising "fixes". Some roadies are dumb (hahaha).

He was told 4-6 weeks for delivery......
  • I ordered mine in early January and received it this past week. Decided to take a chance as a beta tester. I have a wired PT to fall back on if needed. I wanted a crank based power meter I could afford. (Picked up Ultegra version under $650 with my bike race team discount at a LBS.) We'll see how it goes!
  • @Kip - let me know how it goes. I'm very interested since I can't see how a hub-based makes sense for me with multiple bikes or wheelsets, and I'm really struggling with the cost of a quarq.
