The "What are You Watching?" Thread
The Wire
My injury and brief adventures into the exciting world of bedrest encouraged me to rewatch "The Wire," purchasing and downloading each episode from Amazon into my Tivo. The show is just off the charts good and I highly recommend every episode of every season. I'm halfway through Season 3 and am throughly enjoying the characters, storyline, realism, etc.
The Walking Dead
Big fan, though I'm disappointed by the on/off quality of the writing -- good episode followed by poor, etc. And as Patrick can attest to, I've been hitting the zombie / plague / societal collapse apocalypse genre on my Kindle for a few months now. The Walking Dead is a good extension of that and fun mental exercise of my knowledge of small unit tactics, patrolling, defense of a fixed position and other fun stuff.

If you want to check out whole seasons go back and watch Madmen on Netflix. So solid!
Pretty much record all of it on the DVR then skip thru commercials while I work/telecommute from my couch.
We're watching Zero Hour - it's.. ok. Seems like it was written with Nicholas Cage as the protagonist, and they settled for Anthony Edwards. Suitable show, but my wife summed it best: if it were streaming, I'd just skip the show and read the plot synopsis online and be done with it.
House of Cards (Netflix) with Kevin Spacey - only saw one episode so far, but seems well written and produced.
Of course, 24 (Netflix). Even watching it again while on the bike doing workouts is sustainable.
Hmm.. I guess I watch less TV than I thought
Right now going thru Breaking Bad, keeping up with Walking Dead and Justified (Rich you'd love that)
Past best bets: BSG, Wire, Deadwood (going thru it a second time for me right now with my wife), Lost (we just finished that together a few months ago), Firefly, The Shield
Junk, but good junk: 24, Jericho, Hell on Wheels, Torchwood
Heard good things about, but haven't checked out yet: Game of Thrones, Enlightened, Homeland (all in netflix queue)
Promising, but too soon too tell: The Americans (FX)
Homeland...just finished watching season 1 and 2 in about 2 weeks. Season 3 in September can't get here soon enough
X1000 on BSG, I've watched the entire series twice.
@Dino, Pawn Stars and American Pickers are two of our go to shows...
Also loving The Following, kind of a twisted series about a serial killer. Helps if you are a Kevin Bacon fan.
Currently working our way through Breaking Bad. Excellent show!
Waiting on the return of Dexter and Game of Thrones.
I loved Jericho, for one simple reason - it had a defined beginning, middle, and end. At a time when so many other shows had a solid start until they got their seasons renewed and then went fairly rudderless for a while (Oh, I dunno.. LOST!), Jericho had a great first handful of episodes, didn't get renewed after sweeps, and due to fan backlash (nuts!), the writers said 'well, shit - we gotta finish this up' and wrote an extra half season to wrap it up with a nice, tidy bow.
Great suggestion - totally blanked on that one.
But yeah, it's junk - ie, you're not going to be really getting any smarter for watching it
Breaking Bad -- yep, awesome show, looking forward to closing it out when the rest of the season comes out.
Sons of Anarchy -- pretty good but it bugs me that these guys bust caps, all over CA, and nothing really happens? At least in the Soprano's the violence was more...underground? More realistic, like The Walking Dead, which could totallly happen!
Game of Thrones -- I started the first book and couldn't really get into it but I'm willing to give the show a look.
BSG -- started this one also and made it midway through about Season 2 but just didn't get into it. Might be worth a second try.
Project Runway -- a guilty pleasure that Joanne and I share, though what man doesn't want to watch anything with Heidi Klum??
The dozens and dozens and dozens of "reality" shows are getting old. Auction doodes, doodes with axes, doodes pawning stuff...whatever. Makes me wonder about the shows that DON'T make it. I bet there are some real gems there
I'll admit that I've been kinda binging on "reality" shows nowadays . My favourites:
American Colony (Nat. Geo.): Details the life of a Hutterite colony living in rural Montana. Lots of family drama, but really interesting to see their way of life and how they deal with the outside world.
Bar Rescue (SpikeTV): A hardassed bar consultant swoops in and saves various bars from financial ruin. Really interesting to see how a bar is run from behind the scenes, and I think this is something you'd like just from the business perspective of things.
I started watching House of Cards last night, looks promising.
I have Game of Thrones lined up next after I finish season 5 of The Wire and will probably hit Homeland after that.
Anson, when I was your age, or younger, I was a bartender in Atlanta so I know that world very well
For a laugh Raising Hope is a hoot (Netflix for seasons 1 and 2).
season 3 Game of Thrones starts tomorrow
Last night I finished season 1 of Homeland. Excellent series.
