no change in monthly TT's

I read about everyone having these great gains with their monthly tests. I am in about week 12 of HIM plan and have been consistent with the workouts until a poor week due to bronchitis. However, I have not made any significant gains with any of my tests. What gives? WHat do I need to change?

  • Leah ... I'm in wk 12 HIM also. In my years training with EN, I've come to expect that my test results for bike and run will not improve during HIM or IM specific training. "Speed" improvements come during OS, sport specific, or Get Faster training. The race plans are designed not to make us faster, but to help us leverage that speed over longer time/distance. Measures of that success come during our longer runs and rides, in the race rehearsals we'll be doing, and of course in the race itself.

Eg, on Saturday and Sunday rides, I'm trying to be able to hold a slightly higher % of FTP for longer periods of time. On the long runs, I'm looking to be able to run close to my marathon pace for longer intervals at the end of the run. This is how I know my training is helping me get ready for race day. In the RRs, I'll be looking at how close I can get my brick run pace to my expected race day pace, after biking 56 miles at race pace. The first RR will probably be a struggle, the second, with three weeks to go, should feel a bit "easier."

This was supposed to be a test week for me, but I only tested swimming. I think the plans include testing @week 12 mainly for those doing the 20 week version.
  • As always - Truscott gives great advice.
  • X2 on Al's comments.

Try to view the tests in HIM and IM plans as maintenance , confirmation , and keeping you honest with your paces and power!

Look at the HIM/IM plans as working towards building your "sustainable" pace and power. Or in EN speak. Far on top of Fast!
  • Leah, See I told ya so... This posting works better for an answer vs the Dashboard as the Dashboard may get busy and the page just rolls off, with your questions too. Welcome to the Forums image
  • Thanks, I feel better.
