Tri Suits for long course
Does anybody have any experience/ recommendations for tri suits. Looking for one you can swim in without a wetsuit or speedsuit. Was looking at the Desoto liftfoil speed trisuit or Rivera trisuit with snake front zip. Any other recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Have you worn any of the normal Desoto tri shorts? The trisuit versions are pretty much more of the same, so the Forza is going to have the the Forza pad, which is a minimal fleece lining. The Riveria is going to have the riviera pad.
Personally, I can't wear the Riveria pad, it's fine for on the bike but it feels very 'restrictive' on the man parts to me while running. I just strongly dislike having any noticeable pad on the run.
My last word of advice on the Trisuit is maybe not to get one at all. Everyone has their own personal preferences, but I find the only scenario I would ever wear a tri suit is while racing. I find that I get a lot more use out of trishorts since I can wear them in both training and racing. If you prefer the 'feel' of a trisuit, due to it's bib-like effect, you can always get Desoto tri-bibs and still get the flexibility of pairing different tops for different conditions or settings.
Sure others would disagree, I just find the tri suits I own spend a whole lot of time collecting dust.
I got 4 trisuits: the kiwami Kaiman, the Ironman trisuit (the worst), champion system trisuit (club suit, very nice for short events /no pockets) and the last one, i got, the skins tri 400.
don't get the IM trisuit (tattoo model), u can feel the zipper chafe against your belly and will leave u with a very bad scratch (and no, my belly is not big
the kiwami isn't that good as the stiches below your armpits will scratch below your arms on the long runs (+not very comfortable on the bike)
champion system trisuit (they only had 1 model at the time) is very nice, but the padding is minimal and no pockets (they do have new models though)
just got the skins tri400 (pricey but i got a good deal on the internet (less than 200 usd), did my "long day with it" (not the swim though) and loved it, no friction, very comfy! I find the front zipper a little short (will stop 2inches above your belly button) so it could be tricky to get it on/off for a bathroom break during a race (specially when tired like in the middle of the marathon,. The best trisuit i've tried so far, you just don't "feel" it (it's that comfortable!), considering racing with it on my next IM.
John,
I have both the Liftfoil and the Riviera suits. I haven't yet used the Riviera since they're brand new. I did wear it on one trainer ride and it felt fine. The Liftfoil is nice but it doesn't have pockets and it's black and hotter than hell. I don't care what DeSoto says about "Cool Black" or whatever they call it. It's hot.
The big issue with a suit is the potty break scenario. You have to pull the whole suit down to take a leak. Not a major deal but it's a little more time consuming and complicated than a two piece.
